NRL General Recruitment and Retention

Penrith have nothing to worry about. They will keep who they want to keep. Martin...PNG will have to offer $1m at least to be in the conversation, Cleary, probably double. If they keep Cleary and Yeo they'll be fine. They can find the next Martin even so.

Speaking of the Dragons Foxsports are linking Flanagan to the ESL coaching ranks lol, guess Kyle will follow if it ever happens (no steam whatsoever just Foxsports helping a mate after dusting themselves off him with their headlines lol)

Don’t know how PNG players in the comp but you would think that would be a strategy to sign them as they would be more likely to go back to there roots for a time.

That would have to be the model I think. Build up a core of players with PNG roots to create a connection to the area, then sprinkle in a few non PNG players on huge money that are ready to buy in to the mission.

Are there genuinely many quality players with PNG roots? Their national team hardly sets the world on fire …

Wonder how that will effect the retention of other players for the Tigers.

So glad Ponga didn't sign there for the big $$.
Would have effected out retention imo.
Think it’s a bit of a joke PNG are allowed to make these signings well in advanced…
Makes you wonder about the pieces on Ponga last year…

More concern you lose Luai and Koroisau around the same time, plus if others follow Luai like turuva and the Mays. Bula is also unsigned beyond next season.

Yeah Bula going would be really bad. He’s sick.

I like Latu Fainu, he just seems to get hurt a lot.

And a new NRL rivalry is born.

Meanwhile, as recruitment for the Chiefs is already well on track, the Bears are looking like they're in deep trouble. No hooker, still 11 players to sign and not even close to a marquee and the head of football has quit.

The NRL may step in and give them some sort of salary cap dispensation or something, so they can pull a few players across, or it could be a disaster.

Yeah, apparently players don't want the six hour flight to the east coast every other week. Well there's a surprise!! What sort of dispensation is going to sort that? Remembering that any they are given has to come from the club and/or nrl.

Shows how desperate the Bears were for the license that they didn't negotiate any level of support to compensate for the difficulties of setting up in Perth.

I wonder if they really were serious about being based in Perth, and if the whole thing is just a stalking horse to get the club back into the NRL and, from there, back to North Sydney.

PS. Good point about the flight time; apparently, the average AFL career for players at the Eagles and Dockers is two years shorter.
