Kalyn Ponga discussion

The speculation from Morecock media will now be, “UNREST at Newcastle as a host of players get the tap on the shoulder to move on”

Such scum
Funny how it’s news for five minutes. Understandably we need to put back the focus on how terrible the Dragons are and what the hell is going on with the Storm.

Also explains why the club is so keen to make sharpe work as a 5/8 if this long term commitment has been on the cards.

Reckon Sandon won't see out his contract, he's too good as a half to be coming off the bench i when everyone is fit.
Sharpe also actually wants to be a half, so it’s not like they’re pushing him into it unwillingly. He said if DB didn’t want to be the 7 he would. So it’s not going to be a case of us losing him because he wants to play fullback

At the end of the day, Sharpe is better player than Smith. It may take Sharpe a little while to become a very good 6 but he’s certainly capable of it. He looked pretty good before he did his knee. I certainly wouldn’t be writing him off until he’s actually had at least full season or two playing there. He’s still very young and inexperienced for a half really and he’s already don’t a better job then quite a few others

If we lose Smith, so be it. He’s a nice luxury to have, while we have him. It makes for a good change to actually have some depth in key spots.

Fair chance he’s still going to get plenty of game time in the halves knowing our luck and if he proves he can be a starting half somewhere else then that’s a great position to be in really

Have to give POS a wrap, aside from being short a middle or two, the Top 30, depth and juniors coming through show that the club’s definitely in the best position it’s probably ever been in since the Premiership years

Yeah I’m also sure Smith knows it won’t be hard for him to find a club, plenty will come knocking so why not stay test it out a bit and if he wants to leave he will have that opportunity in his back pocket, if he doesn’t like the game time.

How much would Marzhew realistically be on? 400k?
Around that

He was on about $200k when first got here and had that great year so they upgraded and extended him to around that price

It’s probably too much though in the fact that he runs like a beast but is limited in jumping and tackling

Realistically, how many clubs would he walk into as a starting half? Don’t think there’d be many. And I really rate how he’s played btw. Definitely the dragons, maybe Cowboys with Clifford (although he’s been one of their best players), Eels.

Just had a little look at NRL stats, when you add line breaks, line break assists and line break involvements (eg, if you throw a well timed pass which allows your centre to put the winger away with quick hands, they’ll call that a “line break involvement”) all together, and factoring in he only played 1/4 of one game, he is averaging almost 5 total per game. That is, almost 5 times per game this season he’s either created or made a break himself.

His halves are embarrassing themselves by comparison, Brown with roughly 3 total breaks made/created per game, and Sharpe just a tick under 2.

I’m very happy to eat humble pie with KP. I thought after the successive lisfranc injuries he was gone and wouldn’t recapture the elusive running ability he had a few years ago. Not only was I wrong on that but he’s added more to his game. Hoping beyond hope that he stays injury free for the rest of this season and we get to see the form he is currently playing with on a longer term basis.

The try assists and line break assists were great yesterday but there was a point in the second half were he ran for about 30 metres and evaded about 6 tackles. Great stuff to watch.
