NRL Round 2 - Sea Eagles Vs Knights - 4:05pm Sunday, 15th March - 4 Pines Park, Brookvale

I still feel like I'm missing something about this game.
They had a decent side on paper with a fully fit Tommy T etc.
I thought we had a chance to win, but we had every bit of bad luck you could dream of, and still smashed them and hardly got out of second gear.

I mean, what the actual hell did happen?
The game reminded me of a game of Flegg years ago when our entire Flegg side went to a funeral of a mate the day before and got beat by 60 against a rubbish side.
 
We played well and wore them out in the heat with all our ball movement and speed.

With Siousiua Taukeiaho out they don’t have any middles who run the ball well besides Paseka, who we did a really good job on. Olakuatu is also a key man in getting them going forward and we also worked him over (if anything we maybe over-prepared for him, both Manly’s first half tries are from our defence mobbing Haumole with him not actually getting the ball).

Their backfield yardage isn’t that good either because they try to preserve Turbo’s body and Saab is a cat.

We have a much better roster on paper when you internalise that Mooney is a good starting prop, Croker is *a better player than Jake Turbo* now, our bench is better, and obviously our backline ****s all over theirs. And we have a coach who’s brought out the right playing style for us, trying to force a fast, open game which plays to our strengths. They don’t have a lot in the locker to stop us from doing that and they played **** on top of that because they’re off their coach.

The next couple of games are more of a litmus test of where we’re at because they’re teams that are better in contact, line speed, slowing down the ruck, controlling territory, etc. They’ll do everything they can to stop the open game of footy we want.

Don’t think Manly are in a good place at all … Seibold might not last the month, at this rate.

They’re definitely underachieving. Whether that’s motivation who knows. They weren’t wrong to not hand DCE a blank cheque and as mentioned Fogarty has played okay and they weren’t terrible against the Raiders. But as Cronk pointed out on game day and as it’s been mentioned here it is concerning they’re being out enthused this early in the season, line speed, play the ball, expansive play etc.
We just didn’t need to drop balls in our own end and not be soft in defence when it matters and we did exactly that which helps
