2026 Season

I’m not sure that’s actually true, in his first four years (easily his fittest) he never played less than 23 games a year, he left and easily got a lot fatter even in his first year at the rabbits, since than he has never played more than 17 games in a year.

Simple kinesiology shows that you don’t train less to get less injuries, in fact you get more injuries by training less. I think the problem with his injuries is simply he isn’t training enough and that’s clearly shown by his stomach, you don’t need to be “rock hard” he wasn’t at the Roosters but he was trim and a lot fitter.

I also put this down to Latrell basically owning the club and can seemingly do what he wishes, Morris and Burgess said a few home truths and were kicked for it.

The simple fact of the matter as well is so far Latrell to the Bunnies has been an undeniable failure, they bought him seeing a premiership window by grabbing him and since he has never played more than 17 games. Unless he wins a title he is a failure.

Good signs for the bunnies, they will be able to score at will. But I feel like they will struggle against teams that get them in the grind. Phins were always overhyped, defence is optional for them.

Yeah I was putting their issues down to missing Gilbert and Flegler so long. Flegler in particular was so important to why the 2023 iteration of the Broncos was so consistent, you go back and watch those game you see that the sides they’re playing against start running sideways early because they don’t want to run at him.

But it’s starting to look more like a culture thing. Absolutely disgustingly lazy around the ruck. Maybe they thought just having those guys back would fix it for them.

Mate as a guy with a decent beer gut who doesn’t want to give up the NRL dream I find this really offensive tbh. I’m pretty sure I don’t have to get in shape if I want to line up at centre for the Knights one day. Stop bursting my bubble!

Overall summary of this round of footy for me: Game’s not played on paper.

So often the Storm come into a new season fielding five guys nobody has ever heard of in their pack. Finally, they look vulnerable, a weak pack other teams can take advantage of. But nope once again from the jump their non-star players are A+ in work ethic and attention to detail. And then their match winners tear sides up off the back of it.

In round 1 we were one of the teams getting those great effort levels. If we keep that up there’s no reason we can’t win more games than we lose, allowing for injuries. More than half the teams in this comp simply do not consistently work hard for one another.

Would love to know what the Trey beef with Gutho is about, surprised they even know each other.

Lomax to Western Force for two years.

Zac likely takes a pay cut and won't be in the media as much (I was surprised the Western Force are still a thing), but he might get to play in the World Cup. And I'm sure the Bears and PNG at the very least will still be interested come 2028. In fact, I'd be shocked if Chammas hasn't already called his agent to sound him out.

The Eels get their principles. IDK that they've changed anything. The next time a club or player wants/needs to get out of a contract, they probably will.

Personally, I would have taken the cash as a R360 dying windfall for a player no longer on the books or a part of the club's plans. $750k might not have meant much to the Eels, but I'm sure there are a bunch of struggling junior clubs in their catchment area that money could have gone to.

I'm another person that was high on the Dolphins only to underwhelm in Round 1.

Defensively in the ruck, they were horrific and JMK is a massive upgrade over any of their other options at hooker.

I want to see more of Souths before I get too excited about them.

Gould whinging about the number of 6 again calls and complaining about unintended consequences...the bloke literally championed it when it came in.

If it were up to me, 6 again would only apply in the red zone to prevent spoiling in the ruck to give the ref an option that's not as drastic as the sin bin.

But then I'd bring back the pocket ref as he was being used before they killed it, to police the ruck.

Given old Gus’s history, the 6 again must be working, including against the Dogs for him to be complaining. Maybe it’s just something from preventing him exploiting the rules?

Broncs always start slow. They had a lot go their way towards the back end of the season last year, but they also had a fair bit of trouble with Reyno out injured, Walsh in horrendous touch for the first 3 months of footy.

They looked pretty good to the eye. Obviously missing some fire. If Madge weren't the coach I'd be inclined to put a line through them just based on the fact they won it last year, but Madge will have them primed by mid season.

Certainly can’t write off a team full of champions like the Broncos, who have also proven they can beat anyone. Just cannot believe how many horrendous individual efforts there were last night, really from both sides.

Jeez I didn’t watch the game but these highlights really highlight Ezra Mams defence, looks like Iongi had a day out on that left side of the Broncos
Jack Gosiewski beside him would have to be one of the worst starting back rowers going, then he came off for an HIA and didn’t have a great replacement. So yeah that creates a bit of a channel down that edge.

Will feel a bit sad when Alex Johnston breaks Ken Irvines record, no doubt it will happen. Looked up stats and assumed he had played a lot more games but only 8 at this time.
Irvine 236 games for 212 tries. Johnston 244 for 211 tries.
Ken I was the reason I started following league while still at school was more into Soccer, born in Scotland. My following also meant following The Bears and many visits to North Sydney oval where I became a big Greg Florimo fan.
