The pre-season 2026 thread

Only a few clips of the first day of training after the Christmas break, but I can see Latu, Votano, Graham, Arthur, Hunter, Saulo, Sullivan are still there.
There's a big young guy there who might be Seve, but I don't know him well enough to be sure.

Yeah, I’ll be sad to see Marzhew go, he was epic in 2023. Feel like he came back pretty underdone in 2024, was in better shape last year but got mercilessly targeted by opposition. But wish him well at whatever club he goes to, seems like there’s just too much outside-back talent coming through to keep him on here.

One new (returning) face in the posts today is Marcus D'Acre, big lad next to Brown. Must've allowed him to finish up his university rugby season in Canada before returning in the new year.

Funny that’s when he was given that extension (deserved) and was 99% sure that it ran out until this year (before checking). Good timing for us, he will be pushing 30 (the unwritten rule when it’s appropriate to let a winger go). Cant complain about the service he’s given us. Similar reasons Titans had someone waiting in the wings (name was lost on me) circle of life.

Why wouldn’t Saulo, Arthur and Graham be there?

Latu is the only one of that group who would even be a question, the rest are all in the top squad and will be training full-time. Pathways players (Latu, Winter, Hagan, Gow) are the ones who might theoretically get a taste of preseason for the first 6 weeks and then drop off after Christmas.

Source?

This would be a good signing, he’s 6’1 105kg and is quick for a front-rower
He’s 26 (nearly) and has only played 70 first grade / NSW Cup games across his career (roughly 50% in each). Not sure that’s the record of someone who will make a massive difference to our forward stocks.

Looks like a shrewd signing to me, the market for mid-range forwards has gone absolutely mad. If you can get guys who are cheap, proven and in their early to mid 20’s (so still room to grow), probably a good idea. Hopefully Mooney & Hopwood are absolutely killing it by 2027, then supplementing them & J Saf with a bunch of capable do-a-job guys will give us one of the better packs going, given the teams that *do* have a lot of depth in the forwards are going to get bled dry by the new teams. Jesse Colquhoun and Liam Henry getting offers they can’t refuse to go to Perth are a sign of things to come. Both gun young players but they haven’t shown enough to indicate they should be getting the kind of money someone like Pat Carrigan gets. But that’s the market now. Will be interesting to see the kind of offers players like Mariota, Hamlin-Uele etc get now.
