The pre-season 2026 thread

Reports from training that Smith is training now at 7 with Brown at 6.

Sharpe now training at wing outside of Best.

Fletcher Hunt on Gagai's wing. To be replaced by Young when he is fit.

Glad to hear it. Sensible.
i still think the more sensible thing is playing sharpe at 14, have him around the ball and still in the spine just off the bench. Think he will be wasted on the wing especially when we have De Courcey coming up

Could always allow Sharpe to play fullback on some sets like Crichton does at the Bulldogs, while still giving us 200m on the wing

There’s a lot of gun FB’s that started on the wing. The circumstances with us he is not quite the best FB at the club. So wing is the logical position for me.

And if history repeats KP may have another stint on the sidelines with injury or rep. Sharpe is our man. We don’t lose much him playing there. So it’s not like it was in previous seasons as we have another gun ready.

Faralongo and Paps are a good comparison.

Well at least we know we will compete in the air with both Hunt and Sharpe, our meters out of yardage is going to suffer for a little while

It was a dig at our previous coach. Sarcasm.

Think I'm still in 2025

I’m excited* at the prospect of fast wingers. Young and Sharpe on the edges makes me hopeful of some early shifts. Still get great joy re-watching Dom Young run around a whole team and score. Perhaps Young gets targeted now? Like who do you kick to, Sharpe, Ponga or Young? All of them returning the ball to a broken defensive line is a dangerous proposition, so teams will have to be wary of that. (I am a little concerned that Ponga’s feet injuries and age have maybe cost him a yard or 2 of pace and limit his agility, but I’m hopefully a good few months of rehab has fixed him up)

An early nailed on halves combo - as much as I like Sharpe, he is unfortunately behind Ponga at FB, Smith at 7 and Brown at 6 (for now anyway). But a great luxury to have somebody like him that could slip into FB or the halves. And I can see us figuring a way to involve him in attack.

If our middles can earn us some good momentum, im excited to see what we can dish up. It sure as hell, has to be a lot better than previous years
..right?! Just excited to see something new.

*we never bloody learn do we. Don’t get ya hopes up.

Should be half a dozen in front of Hunt.... that's surely a joke training him on the wing!
I think Hunt would be filling in for Dom because they would be wanting a tall guy who can jump for Brown to target with kicks. It should be one of our main attacking plays next year.

Greg marshew will most likely leave mid season. He is already pretty much going to the bears anyway. Holbrook will pick Dom he simply offers more than Marshew his an aerial threat and can finish a try.

I actually think Gamble when his been the 14 has been great in that role. Love his aggression and energy.
I agree with this. I think Gamble at 14 gives us more solutions to in game injuries and if no one does get hurt he can give you a good 30 mins at lock. I would just play Phoenix at 9 all game. Wouldn’t be mad if they decided to go with a bench hooker, but I just believe in Gamble more right now than the two young guys as someone who can come on and spark the attack a bit.
