2026 Knights Coaching and Football Staff

Yeah gotta agree, if she leaves than it might be time to call it on the NRLW for me.

I have to admit I haven't watched any of the WNRL this season. It was clear to me the two clubs hoarding the talent and that was going to ruin the season.

The league is still very much building the standard of Rugby League though it has gotten better, but the concentration of talent is not interesting to me at all.

Tamika leaving on "compassionate grounds" mid contract was a pretty bitter pill.

The NRL suffers from this also but there is way more talent available in the NRL so no one or two teams can get every top player.

I’m going to come out and say it at risk of much hatred but I can’t stand NRLW and I think it’s a waste of time and resources for most clubs at this stage. It doesn’t have the giant pool of talent yet as proven with the current grand final teams hoarding everything or does it have the legs to go a full season anyway and could be decades before it does.

It’s not a sexism thing, good luck to them! Just not for me.

The bad news for you is you missed our only two decent seasons as a club in the last 24 years …

I didn’t actually, I tuned in and it just wasn’t for me mate. Now that 2x premiership winning team of girls are split down the guts and playing for roosters and broncos.

Womens game is improving rapidly.
5 years ago the English team could compete with Aus and NZ, but they are still not professional and the game in Las Vegas this year showed how the Australian side has gone to a level that made it look like an NRL team playing a country side.
It was hard to watch in the first few years, but it's like watching footy from the 1980s now - just not as brutal, but about the same skill level.

The good part of having Bedsy back in a coaching role fulltime is he gives us continuity. He knows every player and he knows all the resources we have at the club. He is also a friend and former team mate of the new coach.
All the new staff will have the perfect guy to tell them what's what, because he has been hands on with everything from a bit of coaching to helping design and organise the facilities down to one article I remember about him picking out what grass to plant on the training fields.
Even if it's only for a year or two, he can help the new coaching and training team settle in very quickly.

When I did a management course years ago they called it "corporate memory" - ie, he knows which pipe to kick if the hot water isn't working and where we keep the paper clips.

He has our club DNA

Buderus will be Holbrook’s “right hand man for the 2026 season”.

This is an excellent move.

New-cas-tle, New-cas-tle, New-cas-tle.

I’m glad they saved this for the same day that Brisbane announced Southwell.

Softens the blow with some good news

Article in the Herald this morning says Holbrook offered Bedsy the job and gave him a week to think about it, and Bedsy got back within 24 hours to say he was "all in" for the job.
It quotes Stone and Kidley saying it was a good move etc.
In the article it says Hales and White are not signed yet but implies it's just a matter of time.
There is no mention in the article of what is happening with Dobson and if we have sorted out training staff.
To be honest, the article left me feeling the only people on the job right now are Holbrook and Buderus, and Buderus is currently overseas on holiday.

Well as long as Rick Stone’s given his seal of approval, that’s all I need to hear
