NRL General Recruitment and Retention

Conflicting reports that Jonah Pezet is either going to the Raiders next year on a season-long loan or signing with the Eels outright after they release Lomax.

Titans may be about to pick up Lachlan Ilias... did they pretend they wanted a Pezet loan to get the inside track on that sweet sweet Lachie Ilias sauce? It's the Titans so nothing would surprise me.

Seems weird for the Eels I mean Moses is light years better than Pezet at the moment so is Pezet happy playing 6?

They're talking youth movement, so having Pezet as the second fiddle who learns from him and takes over down the line does make sense.

Moses is also equally adept at 6 & 7, he's very adaptable, and a lot of the best stuff in his game is being brought onto the ball like a sweeping 6/1, attacking short sides, etc. The opportunity to play with a genuine organising half who frees him up to play more opportunistically, to play what he sees more, may actually be the best thing for his game, individually.

So yeah I think it'd be a good move for Pezet if he doesn't care what the number on his back is, good for Moses, good for the Eels, and most importantly not good for Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane or Easts. I rate the move.

We have poached a lot of their talent lately so I can't say I'd be too bitter if Jonah ended up there and killed it. Would seem fair.

Also it helps that Ryles knows what Pezet can do from his time in Melbourne. At least Pezet knows where he is going and what he will get from Ryles.
Pezet was never going to a rabble club.

Let’s hold our horses on the Eels not being a rabble, they did just lose their best local junior in a long time to us because they agreed to an 8 year contract with 6 seasons of player options in it.

But yes the Ryles connection may help, wouldn’t be the first time a player followed an assistant coach they’ve worked with before to their new contract. Their other signings so far have been a bit of a mixed bag IMO but Ryles will be judged on how their young guys develop.

Some word coming out that Pezet has activated his exit clause and go to market.

Parra, Titans , Raiders and Cowboys the named teams after him.

He’s going to be a very good halve in the NRL. Well we had a good crack at trying to get him. Move on. Brown and Sandon are our guys! 🤞
Yep, it was a conscious decision to post the news in the NRL recruitment, not the Knights specific ones.

Storm could be in a bit of a pickle with some of their rumoured exits. NAS (850) apparently telling teammates he’s unlikely to be there next year. Paps largely rumoured to be off to Rugby 360. Presumably they won’t let Munster go to Perth if they lose Pezet. But apparently rugby 360 is after Munster too.

For Pezet - I think he goes to Eels to play 6 with Moses (4 more years as 7) or Raiders to work with Ricky and play 7 with that young team. They desperately need somebody to replace Fogarty - Pezet could definitely be that person. Not many go to Gold Coast and get success. Cowboys don’t look too appealing at the moment I don’t thinks.

He’s too similar to Moses IMO. Canberra should be going all out for him. Pezet and Strange in the halves are the perfect combination. Fogarty is a big loss but Pezet is an upgrade on him and more importantly long term. They put themselves in a good position to win a premiership getting him.

1. Fa'alogo
6. Wishart
7. Hughes
9. Grant

With money for another gun middle and a rep centre. We'll hardly notice the difference.

The Panthers have signed him for 3 years and their press release said he “played a vital role in the Panthers’ 2023 premiership victory”.
