Toohey's News

Agree. If we're going to give a journeyman a shot, this is the way to do it. If Hola harnesses his potential, we get a budget FG prop we need; if he doesn't, it isn't much of an impact in terms of cost or contract length, and he at least improves reserve grade, which is good for the club.

A bit different to not being able to move Hetherington on because of how much money he's on.

Yeah, Mahoney's $650-800k price does seem steep.
Pass

Hearing from Bulldogs insiders that Ciraldo has wanted Mahoney gone for a long while there just hasnt been adequate replacements.

Mahoney is supposedly "selfish" and affects the team dynamic.
Ciraldo or Gus wants him gone because he's found a player he likes better for that position?

I'm a pass too. But I'll get on board with most players who sign with the Knights.

It seems a moot point, though. I can't see POS letting Brails go on $500k-ish deal to sign Mahooney on significantly more than that. Does not seem to be the way he operates.

Can I ask why, even when on the field how many good games has he had on huge money?
Yes, you may. But you'll need the whole quote, not a fox news sound bite:

"If we sign Mahoney, I'll be disappointed Hetherington is going. Would have loved to see how that went down. Would could possibly go wrong!?!"

In a Newcastle v Doggies game in April 2024, Mahoney got under the skin completely of serial hothead Hetherington. Both were sin binned, with Hetherington seemingly looking to carry on the fight in the tunnel. Hence, what could possibly go wrong if they were both at the club? To clarify, I'd be happy to sign Mahoney, I'm happy for Hetherington to move on, and I really wouldn't like to see how it played out otherwise.

Delighted we're trying this. The "technically we're not tampering, the guy in the media who just prints what we ask him to doesn't work for the club, technically" approach.

It's ridiculous he's still there. He'd walk into our team Trey. What are they, Manchester City?
With new signing everyday the Bulldogs are going to be in the same boat this time next year with guys looking for game time.

Club has talked about targeting Josh Papa from Canberra if Frizell doesn't sign.

Speculation that Leo Thompson has "put the cue in the rack" for this year. Toohey says that Crouch had a great game in reserve grade and could debut soon if Thompson doesn't aim up.

Says Fletcher Sharpe is out for the rest of the year and isn't allowed to drive yet. Says he has been in to talk to medical staff and when he is up to it, he will come in to help with video reviews.

Says we are not interested in Josh Kerr or Tui Kamickamica.

Says ex-knight Glen Miller has medical issues and old boys are rallying around him.

In a separate article by Max McKinney, Jacob Saifiti is quoted as saying he didn't feel like a firstgrader till his 5th season and started way too young. The odd thing is he talks about all the young forwards coming through and how they need to be brought on slowly, and the first one he mentions in all quotes is Jack Hilliar. We have been told that Jack has signed for Canterbury, but he hasn't played for them yet.

I definitely agree with the sentiment that Leo has put the cue in the rack. We really needed him to stand up this year with so many forward injuries but he’s spent most of the year with suspension from careless and dangerous tackles and when he has played he’s barely been noticed. A sad reflection of his professionalism to be honest. I get he probably feels dirty at the club for the promised upgrade issue but he’s signed with another club, fine. His remaining teammates (especially the young guys who have probably looked up to him with how he’s developed here) deserve better than what he’s put in though. I’d be totally behind AOB dropping him for Couch if Couch is up to it. It’s not like we have anything to lose this year or Leo will be that missed.

Honestly what has Leo actually done?

I think he is pretty overrated

I’m not sure why we can’t afford to offer both Josh Papa and Friz contracts? By my calculations we have a lot of money free for next season. Having those two (+ Jake SAF) supporting some talented young players and I’d actually be feeling ok about next year.

His manager used a clip that one burst of energy he had in one of the last games last year to run over the top of the smallest guy in the competition who was on debut 2 meters out to score as a selling point and the bulldogs who have bought 60 others kids from every other club have snapped him up.

**** him and his big useless brother.

Interesting to see after someone on here was saying the early debut for players in that era had no impact and the players were all just no good anyway.
