Toohey's News

Reed Mahoney every week if he plays for the Knights in 2026.

He's good mates with DylBro so not a shock that may want to play with him again.

If we sign Mahoney, I'll be disappointed Hetherington is going. Would have loved to see how that went down. Would could possibly go wrong!?!

Really happy about Hola, he was one of the few Raiders forwards in 2023 that were too good for Cup. Surprised he only went to North Devils, which is no slouch of a club.

Crouch and Hola as bench forwards/depth is already a great improvement, but if we can get a Mooney/Mariota/Kerr type player along with it that'd be a massive boost for the team next year.

Forward depth of
8.Jsaf
10. Mooney/Mariota/Joliffe - 1 of these
15. Crouch
16. Kerr

Jones
Croker - Who can also be a benchy for 13
Hola
Elijah
Hopwood
Sullivan

Another article in the Herald this morning quotes Tom Cant about Lachlan Crouch.
Says they are a year apart and played "countless" games for East Maitland Griffins together and won a few titles.
Cant says Crouch is one of the best forwards in NSW cup and talks up his work ethic etc etc etc.
Says that Crouch phoned him and said he had an offer from the Knights, and Cant went hard to talk him into taking it.
At the end of the article Cant talks about himself and says he is trying to base his game on Cotter and is working hard on leg speed and playmaking. Also says Elliott has the sort of playmaking skills he aspires to.

Cant is a player like Jones and Crokes who should be kept at the Knights to see how he develops. He's only scratching his potential and could become important club player like Jones and Crokes currently are.

When look at it Peter Hola was signed with norths devils but was doing a fair bit of training with the Dolphins also so I’m guessing O’Sullivan had his eye on him and was impressed with what he could bring.
You would assume maybe 4th to 6th in pecking order and good for 25-30 min stints per game and probably 1 yr at moment maybe on like $150k roughly.
So if that’s the case its all good for the club as I’m he performs above that level perfect, if not then we haven’t really missed big target as there isn’t really any out there.

And hooker, i would say no to Mahoney as he was asking upwards of around 650-800 i think k to move to cowboys, too much money for what we need,we just need a good distributor, somebody who makes their tackles and quick enough for occasional scoot to put team on back foot

Agree. If we're going to give a journeyman a shot, this is the way to do it. If Hola harnesses his potential, we get a budget FG prop we need; if he doesn't, it isn't much of an impact in terms of cost or contract length, and he at least improves reserve grade, which is good for the club.

A bit different to not being able to move Hetherington on because of how much money he's on.

Yeah, Mahoney's $650-800k price does seem steep.

3/7

POS has an eye on Trey Mooney because of rumours he is unhappy with his lack of game time in Canberra, but can't talk to him because he is still contracted next year. He is also looking at a number of other props.
Delighted we're trying this. The "technically we're not tampering, the guy in the media who just prints what we ask him to doesn't work for the club, technically" approach.

It's ridiculous he's still there. He'd walk into our team Trey. What are they, Manchester City?

Kerr🤢. I'd have Mahoney for his mongrel, not the contract price. He niggles and has a fair go at hooker. What's his longevity going to be though. If we are going for the style I think we are we actually need a good hooker to get us around the park.
