Kalyn Ponga discussion

It's not the assistants fault.

O'Brien has destroyed our club with his inadequate interpretationof the game. And management have exposed themselves as gullible enough to keep him around, to rinse and repeat the same sub-par bs. It's not the assistants, they work under the head coach and are constrained by the structural principles decided on by the head coach.

Not much room for Green to inject himself when the instructions are 'one off the ruck x 4 and kick shallow to the corner'

The buck stops with Obi for sure but we can't just lay this mess entirely at his door.

The assistants haven't had zero contribution to the attack and defence, likewise, some players haven't played to their ability or paychecks. The club has completely stuffed the roster, we have one of the worst lists in the league and a salary cap issue, that's as bad as it gets. I'm sure there are others.

Obi's head may be the one on the chopping block, but there are lots of people in the organisation who can and have to do better for this club to move forward. Simply removing AOB doesn't fix everything overnight as much as it may be the restart we need.

The worst thing to happen to footy is it's taken away all the footy heads and blokes who bleed footy and replaced them with athletes who are being taught to play. Coaches with game plans to stop natural progression of players, coaches that try to cheat the rules rather then playing eyes up.

Defensively on goal lines I see so many times there is 5 guys within a metre of one another, storm, panthers,Manly exploit these the best. Sharks spread the ball out of trouble more than most teams but with AFB they just play over the ad line so damn fast. If you watch the storm in tackles there is one guy that is ALWAYS just on the ball carrying arm. He is the one that gets off last negating an offload mostly.

Yep that’s why I’m so excited about Sharpe and worried about what we might do to him. Genuine old school proper footy player & the most Melbourne-like player we have, and I mean that as a compliment.

Imagine Sharpe coming up in the 90’s with how open and pass-happy we played back then, phwoar.

I do worry that we’ll never see another great halfback in the mould of Adam Reynolds again though. The game is doing a great job of bashing those dudes out of it.

It seems to come up almost annually, a young fullback comes in and kills it while Ponga is out, leading to calls for Ponga to lose his spot at fullback.

Have to say, he'll return with a fair bit of pressure this time. Sharpe with the best Knights' fullback game in yonks.

Sharpe deadset has the potential to be the best fullback in the game. A more robust 200m+ per game Ryan Papenhyuzen.

I guarantee people at the club know what they need to do, they just don’t want the blowback from Kalyn ending up at the Dogs or something and winning the comp. But you can’t be ruled by that.

We’re undermining two careers here if Sharpe isn’t our fullback going forward. It’s as simple as that.

Whatever responsibility Kalyn feels towards us, it’s gone. I absolve him. He can go to the Roosters if he likes. The club will be fine without him.

This aint a davey armstrong situation, for me this about longterm balance, i said earlier in week id love to swap ponga for a 7 (katoa) .
Seriously though if we are saying this everytime pongas not there and our win loss is better/comparable when his not then why the hell are we making him the richest bloke league.

Individually Ponga is a great player. He has a unique skill set that I’m not sure anyone can match. The issue is fitting him into our team with the other players we have. He’s a full back who doesn’t back up through the middle and a half who can’t defend in the front line.

Pongas a downhill skier, flattrack bully. He is the cream on top for a great team ( you will see that in origin) . we have built this team around his style for to long. look at the metres sharpe stole from dummy half tonight, can anyone tell me the last time kp took a hard carry when it needed to be taken

So all your saying is sharpe needs to get involved in dummy half from 6?

Ponga would have torn that game up too...but we don't need two FBs we need a halfback and a prop. I'd trade KP to the chooks for Hugo, Dom and the best forward they have whose path is blocked and is leaving anyway.
