2025 Recruitment And Retention

Looks like Jahrome Hughes is about to extend his deal at Melbourne long term.......lol @ Pezet
Came here to post this.

Hughes rumoured to be offered a 2-3 year extension, which could see him there until end of season 2028/2029.

Pezet (22 now) will be 25/26 years old by then.

D Brown is 24 now and has played 140FG games.

When Cleary turned 26, he’d just won his 4th premiership in 170 odd games. Perhaps an unfair comparison.

Katoa is 21 and has played 60 FG games.

Hate that Braith gets to spruik his client on 360 every chance. In response to “is he happy to sit on the bench for another 3-4 years?” Braith said “well a loan option was floated when we were negotiating. They’ve been good to Jonah.”

Anyway. Interesting to see when this “jahrome hughes re-signing” clause comes into effect. Is it immediate when Hughes extension is announced? a few articles I read, seem to mention “if Hughes signs on at the end of 2026”.
E.g could Pezet be back on the market in a few weeks?

The loan system in the game should really overhauled to bring balance to the competition. Rather than sides letting players go or be squeezed out by cap pressures, it could be used to ease injury burdens on clubs instead of them tanking their season. Pezet is a prime example. Wants to be at Storm long term but can’t crack a starting spot.

It allows the younger players to see a part of the world they may not even consider and fill a void. Their development club can see just how good they are and then decide if they want to keep them on or let them find another club without the pressure of ‘right now or never’ that seems to permeate this competition now. It is tiresome,

A club could have Jonah for maybe one or two years and know that he wants to eventually return to Melbourne and start. But that means they can have a quality 7 and look to develop or find another in That two years. Or else Jonah decides he wants to stay at the loan club and Storm agree to release him. But he still develops as a player which only benefits everyone. The NRL should not allow a kid of that ability to sit in reserves when substandard halves are at other clubs. There is no onus on the Storm to let him go. And they develop better than anyone. But in my view it weakens the game as whole. Hence why the loan system must become a bigger deal than it is:

The club has announced they have signed Marcus D ‘Acre, a rugby union player from Canada immediately until 2026. He has arrived here and will start in Flegg. He is 20 and 194cm, the club is looking at playing him in the outside backs.

No link is available at present.

Vegas combine winger who apparently was already being looked at by pos through united states contact according to knights media release.

Might have to temper that a bit sorry. My daughter is in class but got a message from knights app saying the club has signed an outside back. She thought it was Dom, might be D'Acre.
The app just messing with us now.

Literally the only back I want to hear signed is Young.

The message i got was "i don't know how to feel about this" from my daughter in class. I thought it must be Dom, a few short years ago she started hyperventilating as he was walking towards us as we left netball. His mum literally put an arm around her to calm her down. But Dom died to her the day he signed with the roosters. I really don't think she wants him back.

D’acre is considered a legitimate prospect. A classic Sully signing. His skill and movement is exceptional. Still a kid. A lot of work ahead.

The fact Jonah was dumb enough to turn down strong first grade money a clear run at his preffered position to sign for backup money behind the second best halfback in the NRL was hilarious.

I think POS is playing the odds here. After Beiber and Celine Duon and Nickleback and Bryan Adams and Drake and Buble, he'd be thinking that something decent HAS to come out of Canada soon. It would be aboot time!!

Jonah Pezet has a get-out clause if Jahrome Hughs extended. That's what I heard. So he will get an offer from a club, maybe Dragons, Parramatta, etc. I doubt we will make him another offer. Unless we off-load KP. But that won't happen at till 27.

Broncos would be one to watch I reckon.
