I reckon if we cut back on the errors and are able to build some pressure, then suddenly the spine starts to look more threatening.

It’s been a huge problem all season long, so far.

Rinse and repeat as we say this same thing all year.....I just don't understand how a first grade NRL team constantly does the most basic silly errors.

Every damn year somethings new crops up haha.

Haha yep.

We try and do more in attack compared to last year and we can’t hold the ball. I’m really hoping AOB can zoom out and see that as we get more game time and everyone knows what we’re doing in attack the ball security will improve. I can definitely see him wanting to revert back to how we “attacked” last year though based on the error count.

Tough travelling to an away game and knowing it is pretty much over 3 minutes in. I'm not going to bag the effort at all last night, some guys really went up in my estimations. That game will stand McKewn and Cant in good stead going forward.
McEwen has gone up several levels this year and maybe we should let him have a bit less of a role so we don't burn him out, but Cant has been delivering effort on effort all last year and game after game this year, so he will keep delivering from now on IMO.

I don’t think he will, I think with the changes he made this year he identified we needed to change our approach in that area.

I remember when we found out Sharpe was going to play five-eighth I said we need to give him a season there. He’s had a couple of great games, a quiet one and a not great one yesterday. And straight away people on here wanting to shunt him off to the wing. 🤦🏻‍♂️

It is going to take time with him, we need to have some patience.

One part of his game that must have exceeded everyone's expectations has been his defence. Even last night his tackling was outstanding.

Yep I agree. I was one of the people who were initially hesitant about the move to 6 but the absolute worst thing we could do now is ship Sharpe back to the wing after a couple of games. Imagine how much of a confidence hit that would be to Sharpe when a GF winning halfback (lol) and highest paid player in the game played worse but retained their positions? I’d actually lose more respect for AOB if he did that when there isn’t another clear option.

As has been said about Brown next year, if you're happy to take the huge dollars you're offered, you must be dominating and winning games for your team regularly. He was poor today and has to be better. 6 points from 160 minutes of football in the last 2 games isn't good enough.
Need to be in a position so he can dominate the game. He can’t do much when we don’t get out of our own half.

Cogger is simply not up to NRL level. He'll always be known as the straightener who was at the right place right time back in the 2023 GF.

Our depth is thin as it is. Will be really tested next weekend. I've harped for ages that we are a front rower short.

Attack is very tardy, we've gone from a legitimate attacking juggernaut to a borefest of a side that can't organize a **** up at a brewery.

First half effort was good but we were never going to keep that intensity up for 80 minutes.

Ball control is still horrific. Would be nice if can complete some sets next week.

Big improvements needed immediately if we are to beat the Tigers. We barely won last time without 2 of their spine members.

McEwen and Cant were 2 of our best I thought. Showed more promise in this match.

We won't be a bottom 4 side due to other teams being far worse but unsure if we're good enough for top 8 this year.

I know we’re all a bit pissed off now but I get the feeling we might look back at this game at the end of the year and see that it was an important game for the development of our team, especially the younger guys that were involved in it. They were never going to win that game but they just kept trying and trying and trying and at the end of the day you can’t ask for much more than that. A lot of other teams would have completely capitulated and got 50’d. The attack can improve through training but you can’t suddenly develop the type of resilience we showed last night.

We did see him kick once and it was a shocker. Hope his kicking game is better than that.
Yeah everyone loves to give Cogger crap on here. But won’t mention a thing when Sharpe has a shocker.

If Cogger is struggling so much, why can’t Sharpe take control of the game and start kicking and setting up plays?

Think last night there was a clear positive that the resolve and fight, especially that some younger players showed. Think it’s also fair to be a bit critical of the spine, any chances we got didn’t look threatening at all and they really struggled to take any control of the game. I wish we brought brailey on a bit earlier and let Crossland play lock for much longer. Just think they would’ve been better placed to handle the big minutes better than the other players in attack.

It was Sharpe’s 16th game of first grade, and fourth in the halves.

It’s Cogger’s tenth season in first grade.

That’s why.

Cogger is in the side as our organising 7, Sharpe is playing third fiddle as a running five eighth. If Cogger isn’t marshalling the side around the field then he isn’t doing anything. Thats before the fact one of them debuted last season and the other in 2016.

Thank you. It’s so weird that people have who’ve watched footy for years don’t get this. There’s this weird thing which happens in footy where the spine players on the team which made more metres and had more of the ball usually end up playing better than the ones on the other team. And it’s rare for the discrepancy to be as big as it was last night aside from games which end up with one team scoring 50.

There isn’t a single player in the comp who could have overcome the yardage, possession and territory disadvantages last night. Not one. And the Dogs are a very good team, a seriously good defence, who had basically zero fatigue put into them by the way the game was going.

I’m really not worried if we keep bringing the same effort and intent. Handling will improve. We won’t lose two players in the first 30 seconds every week. Passes will start sticking. We’ll have more games which are about even for possession and field position and all that and Sharpe & Ponga will create plenty of points in those games.
