Recruitment And Retention Discussion

If we want to keep Tyrone we'll need to re-sign him before he can adequately demonstrate his value.

Clearly the club doesn't like doing that otherwise Leo wouldn't be leaving us.

Can't see how this gets resolved. The Dogs will likely come for him if he looks good
It's a risk to sign a player before they've shown they're any good, though.

And the Club made Leo a good offer from all reports. Can't force him to stay. He wanted to leave and that's entirely his choice.

I think Tyrone's his own person, we have given him the opportunity and as long as we give him a decent offer then he'll be open to staying here. POS will hopefully be able to manage it a bit better than his predecessors.

The club made Leo an offer too late in the day imo.

I appreciate the risk involved in prematurely offering contract extensions but you'll have a very hard time convincing me that it wasn't obvious that Leo was a tremendous player from his first season onwards. We sat on our hands for years with Leo and lost that bet. In the end we offered him more than he was worth just to keep him.

Yeah, it was pretty damn poor what we were paying Leo as a starting prop. Just from an employee fair pay point of view!

Tyrone is still unproven though, so a bit of a difference. But certainly I'd be looking to extend him now in some way.

I wouldn't extend Tyrone today. But I'd have a contract ready to go for if and when he shows signs of being his brothers archetype

But what value do they sign him for. Dis you watch him in the trials? Brodie and Crokes are light years ahead and they’re on minimum wage. I want him to work out also but our chips need to managed not all in. That reserved for Dylbo Baggins 😂

Full of sharks and dead bodi

Goes to show how bad our cap management was. And in some respects I can’t blame them we were so bad that we paid both Safs close to a mil for multiple years. That screwed us. We’ve fixed that now hopefully that hill is climbed and we come out the other side to a great horizon

Ah, so wait until he proves himself
Lets not pretend it's black and white.

We pretended it was grey for 3 years when it was clearly black and white with Leo.

If Tyrone is that guy he will show signs. I'm suggesting we make a move with a modest contract extension earlier than would otherwise be preferred - because that's where value is found.

You're allowed to disagree. If you want to wait until he is clearly worth the money we offer him we'll very likely lose him.

Did I say we sign him today? I wouldn't re-sign him today.

My point was, we need to be prepared to do it earlier than is ideal otherwise we'll be competing with 16 other clubs

POS has stated that the reason he left is that the three year deal Leo signed with us came with some informal promises (performance-based incentives) which we didn't keep because we didn't have the cap space to pay him what was promised. That soured his relationship with club admin.
Which is fair, however I really doubt that's the only reason he left. At the end of it, he had a good offer from us, and whether he had a justified grievance with the club or not, I can think of at least a few hundred thousand reasons he's leaving.

Do we think we are getting him NRL ready and he will hold of for offers from elsewhere based on his brother failure to be satisfied with his final treatment/offer, my gut is he will leave
