Toohey's News

Think things are pretty dire for the Herald right now as he alluded to so might be out of his hands this time. Just had more redundancies during the week. He clarified that it's not a sure thing though.

Toohey has just been how the club drops "unofficial" news since he retired.

If he stops doing it they'll have to find someone else to feed news to that they don't want to announce officially yet.

I have always enjoyed the club talk from him more, the insight into who the club wants to keep, who is in the pathways and in the clubs plan, who they might target from under someone's nose in the juniors. Debunking the stuff the Sydney media gets wrong when there is some steam probably the lesser fun part of his job but someone has to do it as many may believe what they read.
So long as that is a part of the newer content and it is less solely opinionated based then it should be alright and attract readers.

The item that will most interest this forum - the club has had an internal investigation into leaks on "social media" about team lists and "it's no longer a problem".

Main article says O'Brien has established himself as a genuine NRL coach, but now needs to take it to a new level.

Jones and Croker had been told to look around months ago, but with all the departures, it now looks like there is room for them.

The club were interested in keeping Tuala but he got a good offer from Canterbury and took it.

Says signing Pezet early relies on Hastings being moved on during the off season and that Ponga should be used to sell Pezet on his "vision".

Steve Simpson will be the Harold Matts coach next year. Alex Moore goes from Matts coach to Flegg coach - Ball coach Matt Nichol will go fulltime and take over Dobson's old role. Rohan Smith knocked back the role, offered to him by his friend POS.

POS says Taj Annan has the build to play wing in the NRL, but also says he has a kick to rival Matt Burton.

To be clear, coaching list;
Harold Matthews - Steve Simpson
SG Ball - Matt Nichol - now fulltime and with a role across the grades
Jersey Flegg - Alex Moore
Reserve Grade - Michael Dobson - a fulltime role and also some firstgrade duties.
Firstgrade - O'Brien - assistants Green, McDermott and Dobson.

That’s concerning we are very unlikely to move Hastings on to an NRL rival. I’m fairly certain that an ESL can’t pick up his salary ether.

Depends how much freight we are willing to cover, 50% and an ESL team might jump at the chance.

But I don't understand how it affects Pezet for 26. Hastings is off Contract by then, must be referring to getting him early.

I did read an article a few days ago where apparently Hastings had said he wasn’t interested in moving back to the ESL so it looks like he may be with us for the next season. Speed and fitness wise he doesn’t look like he fits in with what AOB wants from a 7 so I wonder if he could transition into a ball playing 13 but the rumours about personality conflicts suggest he’ll probably spend next year in NSW Cup.

If that’s the case he’ll just be collecting a retirement payment next year. Nobody else will pick him up after a year in NSW Cup …

Yeah - signing him for 2025 depends on Hastings leaving.

So we could be paying $800,000 next year for a ball playing NSW Cup lock who will not get a game in first grade.

Now we understand why the Tigers saw him as a ball playing lock.
