NRL Round 18 - Raiders V Knights - 4:05pm Sunday 7th July - GIO Stadium Canberra

I just slumped in my seat when it finished and said, “holy ***t that was hard work to watch!” And my wife said, “I walked past two minutes ago and you looked like you were going to have a heart attack”

I had my ear phones on and I was just stuck there in a world of pain and horror, motionless and not saying a word. 🤣
I think I probably looked the same in regards to the heart attack lol. Those types of games … it would be exaggerating to say they take years off your life … but they probably take a couple of days off! 😂

Think Pryce really needs another NRL preseason to beef up a bit. I love his eagerness to take the line on but seems to get pretty easily handled in the tackle. Until he gets a bit stronger however he won’t pose much of a running threat.

Yes, you put a bomb up and tackle the player, that is one.

You hand the ball over, they play the ball for zero.

Worst result (other then seven tackles from the 20) in the Benny and Bellyache books is contest the ball and knock on, the opposition gets it and gets on the front foot and it is still the zero tackle.

In regards to the kicking game, I don’t like it but it’s hard to argue it doesn’t work. Raiders try’s yesterday came from a barge over after a soft penalty and an intercept runaway. Our attack was terrible but I think that was more down to poor performances from key playmakers (Hastings good, Ponga meh, 9 & 6 poor).

As boring as it is, making teams work out from the corner consistently 10-15m out from their own line is a viable tactic that will win a lot of games in the NRL.

Cogger has showed he has nothing to over in first grade this year, last week pryce was good and atleast he brings a bigger boot than hastings or cogger and also showed signs of being decent.

If he has another error filled game next week I have no doubt he'll be back to the minor leagues.

We were a Xaiver Savage knock on away from losing a game we should have won by 20. Very lucky the negative tactics didn't cost us an easy win.

I would say we were unlucky in some instances not to put on more points. I'll give Pryce a pass, he took the line on a couple of times, good, his defense was decent. Yeah, he made some errors, he will get them out of his game. The pass he threw way over the sideline, at least he was thinking attack. I'm sure if you look back there are players that are guns now that made some errors in the first few games of NRL. He provides another running threat on the field. But in saying all that unless he absolutely brains it the next two games, I say Gamble will comes back into the side.

Ah I see what you mean. Cheers 👍

The problem with that mistake free grinding style of football is it will never get you anywhere against the good sides. The Panthers and Storms of the world just do it so much better.

Take yesterday, we spent probably 20 minutes going back and forth with Canberra in the first half, we finally earn a mistake right before halftime … and Pryce passes it a metre forward on tackle one off the scrum. That’s the set you going for the kill on, and the good sides make you pay. We just mess it up. And that was us playing that style of football really well!

The second half shows what happens when it goes wrong, we just tried to grind away, kept making errors and didn’t look like scoring a point. Luckily the Raiders were as poor in attack as we were in completions, and couldn’t hit the lead.

But if our attack was more polished would we still have issues with the kicking game. For instance, say Ponga doesn’t throw a dumb intercept instead looks where his passing and KPP scores, does that now making the kicking game good yesterday.
