Toohey's News

Fitzgibbon has gone ok over here for Warrington, runs good lines, solid enough, though not outstanding - is Cartwright similar, or a level down from him?
Very different players.
Fitz runs hard and tries to hit gaps.
Jed has a bit of footwork and loves to offload.

Su'a is already joining the top 30 next year so seems a likely option to upgrade early. They could then give his development spot to someone else. Leaumoana is the other obvious one, he's been one of the few bright spots in NSW Cup and if they're actively trying to re-sign him with other clubs circling that would be a big lure.

If they just want a cheap option for the rest of the season without committing to anything next year then Moceidreke comes to mind. Wouldn't make any difference to his NRL eligibility but he'd get a few extra dollars.

Fitzgibbon is light years ahead of Cartwright on both sides of the ball. In the NRL games I saw Cartwright play this season, he had difficulty with the physicality of the games, but seemed more at home in NSW Cup games.

On the back of Fletcher Sharpe rumours getting a run, what’s the thought that maybe they keep Armstrong in and one of the wingers possibly makes way to see if that’s a viable option? I’ve only read elsewhere that they are putting something together for Armstrong to keep him at the club, so my thought is, “if that’s true (no idea if it is) then you’d want to trial that as an option before you promised the world and a chunk of the cap”

Thoughts on that?

There have been multiple posts on here stating Armstrong is injured and will not play, including one post that he was not even on the flight to Melbourne.

I honestly think Sharpe may keep him in NSW cup if he plays to his potential. I’m hopeful Hastings just passes the ball and gives the backs a bit of space instead of kicking or just taking it up.
Mr AOB was getting into hastings about running the ball more. I guess we seen the outcome of that, he does it too much. I'd be just telling Jackson steer forwards and to give early ball to backs also kick well.

13/6
Parr has told Hastings that we are not trying to replace him for 2025. Our recruitment manager met with Anasta about another player and they had a brief discussion about Ilias, but it went nowhere.

There is talk about turning Fletcher Sharpe into a 5/8. Toohey says O'Brien was on the Melbourne staff when Munster and Hughes were both moved from fullback to the halves, and Sharpe was a halfback in Mathews and before coming to the Knights. Article says he already looks too good to be reserve grade fullback.

Knights don't have to replace Cartwright by June 30 because of how late he is leaving I presume, but do have to fill our other vacancy. Toohey thinks Cartwright's money could be used to top up Leo's contract.

If Hastings can cut the angry act and play like last yr I have no issues with him being our 7. He direct a team around so damn well.

Sharpe as a 5/8 is I think a Barry assumption. With the likes of Linnane/Loza/Votano/Hunt we have ample running/passing game in our juniors. Can’t keep them all but Sharpe as a true local lad, keeping him for as long as we can is truly important to keeping talent.

Reckon Hastings will be back in England next year. His track record says this kind of uncertainty won't be tenable and he's playing like someone who's not in a great space (not even just the form, the niggling and carrying on has gone up several levels.) Combined with the couple of dramas we heard about behind the scenes it feels like a ticking time bomb.

I'd agree if not for the truck load of money he is going to earn next year.
How much are the knights willing to tip in to get rid of him?

re: the Sharpe story, he doesn’t actually say the Knights are looking at turning him into a 5/8 he just says that maybe they should. Also says Sharpe played a game at halfback in NSW Cup - he was slotted in at halfback on the team sheet because he was a late inclusion but on the field it was Pryce in the halves wearing #1 and Sharpe at fullback.

Also says they're looking to bring in an outside back before June 30.

He doesn't look happy at all. Hasn't gone a full game in the last few weeks without getting in a niggle on the field.

Atleast that means that Jenkins is on the outer, and @slotmachine I thought hastings only came here for $600k.
