Toohey's News

Super Rugby GF is a week and a half before the cut off date for NRL signings but he’d still technically be under contract beyond that point. Pretty ****ty if the Chiefs are just refusing to release him early for the sake of it even after their season is finished.
There's NZ's domestic NPC competition after Super Rugby, they're well within their rights to keep him for that as well.

Sounds like Talagi is just using us to get a better offer from the Eels.

The Eels will want to prevent the loss of another talented junior.
Toohey goes through all the halves ahead of him at Parra and seems to think staying at Parra would be a bad move for him, but says Knights aren't optimistic about getting him.

Fair, wasn’t aware of that
It's not on Super Rugby's scale, and usually the All Blacks are busy so don't play in it, but I can see that they'd want him to fulfill his contract with it. It might be more about not wanting to set a precedent and devalue the competition.

Does it mention anything about extending Leo? Didn’t they put an offer to him a while ago, would’ve thought it would be sorted by now?

6/6
Knights have 500k of salary cap and a spot to fill before the deadline, but won't spend the money on just anyone. They would rather use the cap space to free up a bit of space for next year (I assume that means frontloading a few contracts).

Toohey has a say about he mindset of the team - too complicated to sum up in a sentence.

Club are still trying to sign O'Sullivan as recruitment guy, but Sant George are favourates to sign him.

McDermott and Green were both mentioned for the Parra job, but both have re signed for the Knights. Kostjaysyn hasn't signed yet and has interest from other clubs.

We have juniors signed till the end of 2026 - Fletcher Sharpe, Jye Linnane, Zac Herdegan, Connor Votano, Cody Hopwood, Jack Cullen, Wilson De Courcey, Jermaine McKewn, Sosio Latu and Jack Hilliar and are looking to extend Elijah S-L. Jack Cullen has taken over from Myles Martin as captain of Flegg.

So all these guys will be in their last year of Flegg or first year of reserve grade in 2026 - age wise

1 Fletcher Sharpe
2. Kyle McCarthy (not signed for 2026?)
3 Wilson De Coursey
4 Connor Votano
5 Sosia Latu
6 Jye Linnane
7 Zac Herdegan
8 Cody Hopwood
9 Malachi Smith (not signed for 2026?)
10 Jack Cullen
11 Jermaine McKewn
12 Elijah S-L (not yet signed for 2026)
13 Jack Hilliar

No mention of Sua, Myers, McCarthy, Sutton, Bryan or Rahme by Toohey this morning - maybe they are all considered part of the senior squad now - despite being Flegg aged.

That is a very VERY talented junior ranks. Add in your Sua, McCarthy, Sutton & Bryan. You can’t say club has done well with its junior recruitment. That side alone if we can nurture them through are all first grade quality.
Really happy with that.
The future is exciting, that future is at minimum 2-3yrs away for debut and 4-5 as regular 1st graders. (Think bradmans career so far).

Hooker is the position we look a bit slim in, talent wise.
Malachi Smith hasn't looked as good in Flegg as he did in Ball. Jacob Davis is in his last year of Flegg I think.
Diesal Hagan looks good, but very young still.
