That's just about the most average 17 players to play finals footy in a while.

They do have some star players and will compete hard but fair dinkum we should be doing the deed comfortably

Fire Risk, can you Imagine cramming 50,000 people like sardines and then a fire breaks out.

The words "Calm" and "Orderly" don't spring to mind when I read that sentence.
whats your point there are stadiums out there with big capacity it its just novocastrians hate change and are happy with medocrity if it had a higher capacity they would get more events enven possibly a state of origin a city the size of newy with a catchement of over a million people deserve a world class stadium

Point Is the capacity Is set at 30,000 for that reason.

I am all for a higher capacity stadium, If teams hate coming now Imagine 50,000 plus Novocastrians chanting In unison.

Shot of the padding on Ponga’s shoulder from today. Herald says he was running and passing in both directions without problem but it was a light, non-contact ball work session. Might as well run around with a target stuck on it if they're planning on playing him looking like that.

Also says Hastings looked unimpeded.

The average crowd at Newcastle is usually around the 20,000 mark or just under … no point building a 50,000 seat stadium, it would kill the atmosphere having it under half full each game. Hate to say it but Origin isn’t going to be heading to Newcastle no matter how big the stadium is. It will always be capital cities where the money is.

Hard to fully understand the crowd capacity, am not Newcastle local so don’t attend matches but if ground can seat 30,000 then 20,000 is likely because it is a hassle for less than avid supporter to fight crowd, parking etc to attend when TV coverage is so great.
If stadium could hold say 40,000 then likely the average crowd would increase to approx 26-27,000 if other facilities also increase like parking, transport and crowd control.
As population increases then logically so does crowd participation meaning grounds need to be expanding its capabilities to handle increase. Todays telegraph had article about Sharks home ground, 20,000 capacity not being big enough and discussions about moving it to bigger stadium meaning Sharks would lose HOME ground advantage.
DO YOU WANT THAT IN NEWCASTLE?

Newcastle is guaranteed by the NRL to play any home finals at McDonald-Jones in week one, two or three, luckily. No chance of them being taken away.

Dollars talk, Tv rights talk, nothing is guaranteed nowadays.
If you have a good product why wouldn’t you want the facilities to match the needs, why wait until it is absolutely needed and then wait 4-5 years for it to be approved and completed.
Its the same as housing, build lots then later think maybe we should have widened the road, built some schools, thought about transport, hospital and medical facilities.
The dog is forever chasing the tail
Rant over!

But McDonald-Jones is a really good stadium with plenty of capacity? Apart from someone’s imagination there’s no question of it not being used for our home finals.

The Sharks are a very different situation, they’re in Sydney near plenty of other options, and their capacity is currently around 11k due to all the construction.

I keep thinking about an interview I saw with Glen Lazarus decades ago where they asked him what it takes to win a premiership and his simple answer was "a lot of things have to go right to win a premiership".

I say we need to put our best 17 on the field if they can hobble out there, and hope everything goes great for 4 more games.

Another cliche - "Who dares, wins"

the ground is plenty big enough, really couldnt care less that bandwagon supporters have missed out on tickets. you pay for the privelage of priority access to tickets through memberships.if the knights suddenly start pushing 25k+ full ticketed members then theres an argument for increased stadium capacities.

Just on this, I was thinking last night that it’s quite amazing we have named a full strength side, barring Brailey. Compare that to the Raiders who are down a heap of important players.

Injuries (and suspensions) have been very kind to us this year.
