I actually reckon John Morris would be a good fit for us if we got him as AOB's replacement. Played for the club and wouldn't be afraid to bring in young players like he did at Cronulla.

I personally think Des would be my first choice to take over followed by Madge but if it was Morris I would be still happy as all of them are a upgrade over AOB imo.

I also think Madge would be a good get and from what I've heard him and Hastings had a very good rapport together at the Tigers. Certainly not afraid to push the players hard. Has also guided Souths to that premiership in 2014.

Only problem is that the players will probably take it wrongly (eg Tigers in Tales of Tiger Town documentary and Tyrell Sloan at the Dragons).

My order of who I'd prefer to take over.
1 Hasler, 2 Maguire, 3 Flanagan 4 Morris. (Edit forgot Flanagan)

I don’t think a young coach would have any more success at Newcastle then O’Brien has. He got us to the finals his first 2 years and this year despite some injury adversity early in the season we’re have a decent crack. I know he isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I’d only punt him if there’s a coach with runs on the board that wants the job who we could all agree would make us better.
 
I think the Knights failure isn't on AOB alone but club management. How many staff have this mob gone through?

Footy Manager - . It took how long to get a seasoned pro like Parr, and previous to that it was a rooky in Bedsy ? Seriously WTF.
Recruitment/Retention - Nothing short of a horror show

To add to the above **** show they decided to employ a rooky Coach when what was needed was an experienced hand. Rooky might be all well and great at an established system ( Storm, Roosters etc ) where everything works, and nice and shinny straight out of the box, but the Knights appear poorly run without an established system.

Add in a coach that does not have the character needed - employed mostly inexperienced assistants, an inability to convey or communicate his message, and maintain standards within the playing group = a perfect **** storm of failure.

I would have given the helm to Flannagan straight up. Hands down the man to take over. The man took the **** show that was the Sharks and turned the porch light off.

Had one yr with Peter Parr in charge of club. I think we’ll start seeing better things from the club in next 2 yrs. Which is the same amount of time I expect us to compete against top 6 teams. A consistent Ponga, consistent team and good depth from the juniors. 2 yrs to compete with Top 6. I’d give it an extra two yr if we don’t get obliterated by injuries to be pushing for a title.

He is in his 4th year now would like to think we have a the nucleus of a good team if we a a couple of younger players step up in the next year or 2 would hope to be top four pushing for grand final by then

He had five full seasons up until the premiership (including 2016), his finishes on the table were:

2011: 13th
2012: 7th
2013: 5th
2014: Suspended
2015: 6th
2016: 3rd

Have to say that's much more impressive than what AOB has managed, and they were right in the mix come finals time most of those years.

2017: 5th
2018: 4th

as well.
 
I know a couple of people who work for the NRL and in and around a few clubs. Consensus I’ve heard is that Flanagan really is a top drawer coach, amazing with the players, so good at getting buy-in, building brotherhood and that siege mentality. Have a look at those early Sharks rosters he had, honestly just avoiding the spoon was an accomplishment, and I think the side he won the comp with is one of the weaker ones to go all the way.

He’s a bit like Hastings in that he’s undermined his own career due to tanking his reputation, both in a PR sense & also some other stuff behind the scenes at Cronulla I won’t get into.

AOB finished 8th 7th 12th if we can manage to get to 6th this yeah I see no difference

Well Flanagan finished 5th and 6th in his 3rd and 4th years, and won a finals game both those years. I wouldn't say we're improving our results the longer we get into AOB's tenure like that, but if we manage to finish 6th and win a finals game, and then win the GF next year, I'll eat my words.

Think 6th is very possible we shown that we can play good footy and hopefully we get a good run with injuries think our next month of footy is going to tell how our season will go broncos Panthers think roosters tigers and Bulldogs think we could win 4 out of 5 roosters before origin Panthers after origin then dogs and tigers will put us up there if we do
