Toohey's News

Could be Frizells last season, older, more injuries, head knocks, love to see him for one more even if it’s of the bench covering 11, 12, 13.

For a bloke that was supposedly fit his looked like he was playing injured from round 1, his too bashed up unless he wants to stay for a pie and chips let him go.

$400k max for mine.

Chicken and pork are still cheapish because they are battery farmed and not effected by droughts and floods.
I have a friend who always claimed all meat tastes the same so he buys the cheapest. I told him I could taste the difference and his argument was that as soon as you add salt and pepper and any kind of sauce - no one can pick the difference by taste alone, and he has a point.

Yeah if you properly season and slow cook a bit of minute steak it can still be pretty good but won't compare to a scotch fillet or rib eye cooked properly.

Latest podcast is with Michael Dobson.
Toohey seemed to think it was a very encouraging exchange, but I thought it was horrifying. Dobson conceded that the Bulldogs "own" the upper Hunter and mid north coast now, and we need to find ways to compete for good juniors from those areas. He didn't even mention the Roosters on the Central Coast, so I suppose we have given up there.
I suppose it was encouraging that both Toohey and Dobson agreed that we have to spend more on pathways and "breed our own" if we want future success.

Nothing much in it today.
Written before yesterdays game.
A bit about Gagai worried that his Knights legacy isn't as good as he'd want, saying his best form was at Souths.
Says we are still trying for the English boy.
A bit about how well Kiraz has gone since we didn't want him.

podcast today is with Rick Stone - the headline is Rick reveals what Brian Smith did right. Rick is really diplomatic in saying 'he could have done this or that differently' but the only real thing he praised Smith for was teaching him things about coaching and being nice to him - so what Smith did right was to be good to Stone.
Rick only has nice things to say about everyone.

Says he was a great coach and he learnt more about coaching off Brian Smith than anyone else - learnt a bit off Hagan and Bennett, but Smith shaped his coaching philosophy and what he learnt stuck with him.

He’s had a pretty decent career, coached the Knights twice and went over and coached in the Superleague after he was with us.

Brian Smith discussion was under five minutes though, so not sure why they titled the podcast that.

Says Peter Parr thinks Ponga will be back playing soon and doesn't expect the scans he is having to be "career defining".
says Tyson Gamble has impressed and puts the good form of Gagai and Best down to "getting early ball" with Gamble at 5/8.
Says Bailey Hodgson had his best game yet in the win over Dragons in reserves but will struggle to earn a new contract with the form of Miller, Davie Armstrong, Fletcher Sharpe, Connor Votano and Will Pryce on his way.
Says that Adam O'Brien was more "hands on" with the fitness programme in the pre season after Knowles didn't work out, but Matthew Jay is now the fitness guy.
Speculates that Cant, Lucas and Rivett going well in their debuts might make O'Brien less conservative and he might give a few more lower graders a chance.
