Dom Young Roosters player swap

Angus Crichton has been given indefinite leave and he is expected to enter a treatment facility in the next few days. Reportedly he will not be available for training for at least 10 weeks.

Predictively the Roosters are seeking salary cup relief.
Firstly mental health is a serious problem, so hopefully Crighton can get himself sorter and footy is the last thing he needs to worry about

Now onto the salary cap relief, NO WAY...

It is my understanding that the salary cap relief is for injuries in rep games eg world club challenge, origin or playing for your country. You don't get it for illness or preseason games/training. You also don't get it for injuries during the season when a player say does an ACL.

Salary cap relief should be shut down fast.

opens a large can of worms, if he is still contracted to the club he is on the cap.

Non football related injury, opens another can of worms, did the Knights get cap relief when saf broke his leg outside a pub in Newie?

I get its different but it causes way to much grey area.

"We've always been reluctant to let Dom go, so I would suggest that this just reinforces that," Parr said.

"Given that injury it would be highly unlikely we'd enter into any discussions regarding Dom now."

In regards to the Mapa injury

If roosters lost Sua’ali’i, Tupou & JWH. I could stomach them signing Dom and Lineu. But this is just ridiculous that media will report its for less then the astronomical $$ being given by other teams.

Also now Sua’ali’i is resigned. Dom can kiss his “promised” centre position good bye.

Absolute joke.

Dom will end up in the centres within a year or 2 of getting to the Roosters.

They will move Keary on due to his concussion issues, possibly medically retire him and Manu will move to 5/8, Dom then moves to centre

Also players stay or go to the Roosters for less money, under the salary cap, due to 3rd party deals. Uncle Nick has a lot of access to deals outside the salary cap eg here is a $1 million dollar unit, i'll sell it to you for $600 000. Just an example of something they'd be able to do, not saying that is what they do

Yeah technically a lot of stuff like housing assistance is outside the cap, but there are in theory strict rules around it. In theory selling someone a million dollar house for half that violates those rules. In theory.

Doesn't it say Suaalii is only extending for 2024? He's only giving up 100k compared to the Souths offer in that case.

With his current defence he’s not gonna be too crash hot at centre anyway. No one knows what his passing game is like either besides the few flick pass highlights we saw from him playing cup.

Yeah they say this, but it was very common knowledge (and I believe even published in the media) that Sam Burgess spent his first couple of years in Aus staying in Russell Crowe's Bondi penthouse rent free.

I'm sure that wasn't the only or main reason he signed with Souths, but it's a super blatant workaround of the cap rules. Wouldn't ever happen in a more competently run competition (insert any American sport with a salary cap here).

I live in the Eastern Suburbs, and am in the orbit of some of the NRL players that live out here (not just for the Roosters). There's nothing I've heard quite as blatant as that Burgess deal, but I've got very good mail on a lot of things that shouldn't be allowed under a proper salary cap. Speaking fees and rent being the prime examples.

this is why we are always going to struggle getting players and why we need to develop a system like Penrith and get a junior production line happening.

The only way i can see to fix the salary cap and all the loopholes is to audit everyone associated to the club, including sponsors, and to have all payments made to or on behalf of the players sent through the NRL headquarters and it needs to be independent of the NRL for processing of payments

Have a competitive team vying for the top 6 and regular finals runs and you'll compete fine in the player market.

It might work for us (ignoring the circular reference that the embedded advantages some clubs have is what helps them get a competitive team vying for the top 6...)

and how do you propose we get there if not through developing a system to bring our juniors through? Trying to buy players doesn't work without juniors coming through to balance out the salary cap

keary medically retired and club gets relief/exemption from nrl, keary given cushy job at club folding paper clips, the roosters merry go round continues..

uuhhh. Never suggested not to do that??? I said be competitive year in year out. Thanks for useless rebuttal.

I was responding to someone saying we'll never attract high quality players, but we will and we have, however for us to be competitive continuously in the future, the club needs strong competitive pathways, which they are starting now, as seen via the Laurie Daily Cup, Hmatts and SGBall. JFlegg will be flooded with SG talent once SG is finished and we already have Flegg players from last year playing in CUP now against grown men, so the shock of NRL is lessoned a little.

If you've seen me post I mostly post about juniors and how good they are looking this year. Hopefully there will be a continuous flow on affect there.
