im still not sure moving ponga is the right move. interested to see it play out but i wouldnt mind seeing gamble in the 6. either way we go we are going to need to utilise braileys kicking game abit more i think.
 
I think Hastings and Gamble are too similar. Gamble is pretty much a less skilful version of Hastings.
I think Ponga and Hastings could work well together in the halves though.
 
Pressure will be on Ponga much more if he moves to 5/8 which he apparently is.

Media will be all over him given what happened last time.

And I doubt OB is going to escape scrutiny next year, he will be regarded as a big chance at first coach sacked.

The media tend to pick a coach and hammer them until they are gone. OB will be their man next year if we get off to a sluggish start.

Especially with that easy draw we have in the first three rounds. If we start 0/3 he will be all but gone, I reckon.
 
If we make the finals it will be because Ponga has a great year as our class playmaker.
Hastings just needs to be enough of a threat to make sure that other teams don't throw everything they have at Ponga and shut us down completely.
The perfect way for it to work would be for Hastings to be a really busy half, doing most of the work, and Ponga gets the ball when he calls for it and has a great plan to do something special.

What really needs to happen is an intense off season focusing on fast moving and effective defence. Nobody has mentioned Hetherington yet, I think he is just what the Knights need in the power and aggression stakes. He can strike fear into opposition sides which is what we have been sadly missing. If the Knights can secure the Sharks fullback as is doing the rounds, I can see a better season in 2023, with Hastings leading them around.
We just need to fix up our shocking defence, as in 2022, it looked like our team were allergic to tackling.

I have no doubt going after Hastings was with this in mind - Jacko led the NRL in touches/game at 7 this year and pretty much everything good Brooks did in attack as off the back of the space & numbers advantage Jacko created for him.

KP is a huge upgrade in talent, X-factor and decision-making over Brooks, while also profiling similarly in many ways (left-side dominant player, left footed kick, dangerous down short sides, loves a long cut out pass, etc).

Add the pace and elusiveness of Miller or Hodgson/Pryce swinging around the back or trailing through the middle and we should have a lot more strike if we can keep blokes on the park.

It seemed like on the edges we were vulnerable.
