Pearce release - should we just cut bait?

Should Junior be granted his release if the club “can’t find a replacement”?

If Crossland or sasagi are first choice in the halves something badly wrong has happened.
Sasagi wont be there ( i would like to see it though ) But imo Crossland went ok in the games he played and a preseason with joey Will do wonders for him .

I guess we’ll see with Simi. From the pictures of him it looks like he’s been adding a lot of bulk, which points to him committing to being an outside back (or possibly a back rower)?

People need to realise now that Crossland is trash and you won’t be any threat if he is in the halves. The club obviously think that to with his whole contract situation and being last man signed up.

I’m as excited as anybody re our talented youngsters. But I would also like to see them get a full season in a stable reserve grade team.

Sasagi, To’a, Young, Hodgson, et al, are a year plus behind in development due to Covid, but I hate seeing kids thrown in before they are ready.

The camp in Queensland was worth 2 seasons of reserve grade.
I was amazed at how well Momoisea went when he came into firstgrade.
Way, way better than I've seen him play in reserve grade.
Being in camp for months was great for them I think.

I certainly agree re momo. He looked behind a handful of other forwards in reggies before the shift, then seemed a lot stronger in firsts.

Good one.
A 21 year old half with minimal game time because of Covid is trash. That's great for the kids confidence.
If he was so bad why give him a contract in the top 30?

He wasn't the last man signed up. Hoy has been signed after him and there is still 2 spots left.

Your post was pointless and incorrect.

For a forward, I agree.

For outside backs, not so much. Opposition helps them acclimatise to structure.

Given they waited till halfway through the off-season to sign him to a one year deal, I have to say he’s clearly not a priority and won’t be playing in the halves for us. They also signed Clune to pretty much replace his back up role, since Clune was signed before the talk of Pearce leaving started.

I think Crossland had a couple of decent first few games in first grade, but by the end of his stint was totally missing in action. Sad but true, he’ll have to improve massively if he wants more game in first grade, other than as a back up back up.

Also agree with slots that if we go into the season with Crossland starting we’re dead in the water.

Umm Hoy is predominately a fullback in the top grade while Crossland is a half but now being touted for a move to lock by the coaches.

He also only got 1 year to do this positional change.

That says to me that the coaches don’t see him having a future as a half which is what he has played in FG and I don’t blame them. He is very ordinary and the only thing that’s stood out so far is his defence so the coaches are now seeming to exploit that and see how he could handle lock.

He looks like a legitimate option to start @ lock now, to me. Looks really strong in defence and like he’s got that element of mobility for his size + offloading/ball-playing which could make him really dangerous through the middle third. He’s actually the guy I’m highest on now out of all our emerging talent.
