Official: Knights sign David Klemmer for 5 years

Yeah that’s right.
The recruitment has been exceptional. And to be perfectly honest If we didn’t know Klem was on the radar we would have signed Merrin.

We defiantly would have chased some other high profile players that were of interest a lot harder if this Klemmer stuff wasn't in the background the past 3 months.

Its been a smart move by the powers at be to keep it under raps and let the media dribble its thoughts of us chasing everything on the market when we've had a target on lock for months.

THE Newcastle Knights could welcome Kangaroos prop David Klemmer to the Hunter as soon as next week.
That’s according to Buzz Rothfield who revealed on League Central TV that the Knights are firming to secure Klemmer’s signature for the 2019 season.

Despite being contracted until the end of 2020, Klemmer is believed to have a clause that could see him released from his time at Belmore early.

“I have no doubt whatsoever now that he’ll be playing for the Newcastle Knights next year, and I think we’ll know next week,” Rothfield said.

Co-host Matt Logue threw enormous support behind the potential move, declaring that the robust front-rower could be the man to elevate Newcastle back into finals football.

“The modern day Paul Harragon, the Chief’s back,” Logue said.

“In the last couple of years the Knights in the forward pack have probably struggled a bit. “You bring in someone like David Klemmer who’s played for his state and country, you complement the likes of Kalyn Ponga, Mitchell Pearce, Jesse Ramien, realistically finals next year is a big shot.”

Just like the Knights weren’t legally aloud to approach Klemmer before the Bulldogs said he was free to talk to other sides?

Every team does it every year. Dogs could just as easily do the same thing and get into Ramien’s head and offer him double what he signed for the Knights. No doubt he is on a contract under his market value after the season he had.

There is no such thing as being able to leave because of 3rd party agreement falling through. The club are at arms length with those deals and hold no responsibility for them.

Otherwise he wouldn’t of had to request a release and would of just been able to legally leave.

They could, in the same way the USA could launch nukes at Russia. Technically sure, they could do it... but the position isn't tenable, and it isn't productive for anyone involved. Having an unhappy Klemmer at the club is either going to poison the rest of your squads attitude, or you annex him from the rest of the squad and have the RLPA up your arse damn quickly.

I don't see a reason a player couldn't have a get-out clause if third parties fell through, either. I think the rule stipulates that the third party money can't be guarenteed by the club... I don't think it puts restrictions on having out clauses involved with them.

Yes so see point 1, he poisons the rest of the squad. Have you ever been in a workplace with someone who didn't want to be there? The RLPA absolutely could and would get involved if the Dogs annexed him from the rest of the squad (which is the stipulation I said that you totally ignored).

You think the Dogs dig their heels in, cost him the opportunity at lets say a million bucks over the next 2 years, and he just turns up to training with a smile on his face? It's not practical or manageable. The best thing they can do is amicably part ways at no loss to themselves, which is what they're trying to do.
