As a person I hope he does OK in life, but I have a bit of satisfaction in knowing that Ricky will turn on him in no time at all. I reckon he'll be looking for a new club before the season finishes.

Absolutely. If he was brave he should have dropped him early to give him a wake up call to take training and his duties seriously. But no, he hasn't done anything with this team.
The attitude reminds me of Bennett. "I'm doing what works, I'm just waiting for the boys to buy into it". In other words I have no idea what is wrong and I'm not gonna try anything to find out.
 
Dropping players to give them a "wake up call" almost never works.
It kind of worked with Uate last year, but apparently it was his own idea to play some reserve grade when he was struggling with injury, and all it did was prove to him and everyone who say it that even on one leg he was a mile better than reserve grade.
It's like right wing reactionary bull****, thinking you can punish people into being better. You just end up having people think you are a ****.
 
Billy - I coached a junior side 1 year and they played Wests in the GF. Our gun attacking player(who ended up playing Knight's juniors) had an ordinary attitude. I took him from the field mid way through the first half because he wasn't having a dig. Down 14 nil at half time to a very good Wests side that contained Tony Hutton and others I put him back on for the 2nd half hoping that the "wake up call" had some effect. He scored 14 points, saved at least 3 tries and we finished joint major premiers. Yes I know it's juniors and not the NRL but surely it'a a matter of getting to know each player individually. Wayne Bennett obviously knew he could bag Thaiday and get a result. Stone has a massive job in front of him to get the Club back on track but I honestly believe he hasn't got the confidence of the players to achieve such a result. If Leilua's attitude over the last few days is indicative of what he's been like all the time the fact Stone continued to select him is the biggest joke ever.
 
'Dropping' players may not have the desired effect. But general disciplinarianism historically does have the desired effect. All of the best coaches are unforgiving, impatient and aggressive in their own way

Stone can be considered none of these things and this is likely part of the reason that the players never seem fussed to put in the hard yards on the field - because there will be no consequences other than losing, something which apparently they have no issue with
 
The problem here in my opinion is coach stone, he may be a very nice guy but he doesn't have what it takes to be a NRL coach.

We need somebody ruthless that will make the tough decisions no matter what in order to see results. The more we persist with stone the longer we will be a laughing stock.

Won't happen. If your good enough to be in the top squad in Canberra you're a protected species. A high profile player was involved and 'apparently instigated' a fight over the long weekend - apparently the Raiders as a club directly contacted someone who recorded it and it's rumored they paid money for it to be deleted.

Another one of their star recruits has a huge gambling problem. I can't fathom being on 150k+, Although his new contract is reported to be up to 400k after taxes for 4-5 years and not have a house to show for it.

Canberra is one big country town. BJ will quickly find the people here will turn on him when they don't care that he thinks he is a superstar.
 
Didn't Hages win a premiership man what a failure he was as a coach.......You seem to know everything needed to run a team and a club maybe you should take theyre jobs and rocket us to the top of the heap with your prowess ....Kenny powers

Warren Ryan put together a wonderful squad headed by one Andrew Johns, that hagan inherited. The side got progressively worse with hagan at the helm.

Haha what a load I watched every game that team played and your wrong mate and funny how winning a comp makes you hopeless nothings good enough for some people ....

Let's just ignore that Hagan inherited a great Knights squad with Andrew Freaking Johns and ran it into the ground, then repeated the trick at Parra and was never offered another gig.
 
I don't know how much Hagan was responsible for it, but on his watch as coach we ended up paying too much for most of the players on our books. The players he bought in would have been decent if they were all on 20% less, and we could have bought another 3 or 4 quality players with the extra money.
Clint Newton was the obvious example. He was a decent bench forward or starting forward if we had a few injuries, but he was being paid as a regular starter, or even as a rep player.
As I said, how much control over the pay negotiations Hagan had I don't know, but Smith had to ask just about everyone to take a paycut or leave.

Hey I think nearly everyone would agree that despite me never having coached before, I could still win the comp with the same team Hagan had at his disposal
