Joseph Leilua released by the Knights

Matt Gidley mentions we have room in our salary cap and managers want a slice of it. It's a good position to be in. I've never believed we've used it all on upgrades, sounds quite stupid to think that really when upgrades are part of every club's salary cap except we're using big name players left right and centre and replacing them with very little. We'd have plenty.

Edrick or brenko lee

Just what we need, more outside backs!

I might have read it wrong, but I'm fairly sure this space is only there because Leilua is leaving.

After all, it was said we were only able to offer Smith more to keep him because Leilua wouldn't be on the books next year.

apparently BJ was 350k-ish? if we gave smith an extra 50-100k there should be enough for a cornish/sandow type player

anything that means roberts is in nsw cup gives me some shred of confidence

I'd take pangai in return for Joey all day, him and mago terrorised nyc players and pangai has massive potential and awesome athleticism something that could brighten our pack up, only thing is if we get him I can't see stone throwing him in first grade when every week he lets tapine rot away in nsw cup when houston does nothing. Although in time pangai Tariq tapine would be a good young tough skilful backrow. Also goid mates with a few of the boys so I say do That for sure

I would be more than happy to get Shillington in a swap deal. Expirenced Prop former origin and Australian played with a point to prove and is only 30. Has played well when given a shot for Canberra but they just have one of the best packs in the comp thats why he has limited opportunity this year.

Pangai and Cornish, I'll take that deal. Give Cornish 2 years to show his potential, if he doesn't cut it we've got Brock Lamb ready to go anyways. As for Pangai he's a young forward, which if you've watched any Knights games in the last 5 years is exactly what we need.

I couldn't tell you the amount of times a player in an NYC squad of ours hasn't been touted as the next big thing on here. The success rate isn't too great, For every Uate we have 10 Con Mikas, Karawana's and Cory Patterson's.

Take Shilo. You know you will get someone who will talk and yell on the field. Whereas the young bloke might never play more than 20 games. Or, If he isn't an immortal by his fifth game everyone in Newcastle will be saying off with the poor buggers head.

Just for the sake of balance, Knights NYC beat Canberra NYC just last game. Pangai was the forward who had the greatest impact when he was on the field, but the next two biggest impact forwards were Luke Yates and Daniel Saifiti, who both played much longer minutes than Pangai and won us the forward battle on the day. Pangai is 2 years younger than Yates and a year Younger than the Saifiti twins, but at this point I think i rate Luke, Daniel and Jacob as better prospects because of their high workrates.

Without a high work rate you will never amount to anything in FG, no matter how freakish you are. If Pangai hasn't got it now that says to me that hhe'll probably always struggle. Many islanders do struggle with the endurance aspect of the game, Bennett has spoken about this a few times

Fitness wise he's no different to a young Taumololo years ago who is now one of the best forwards in the game.

A few years ago a young Taumololo was playing FG and handling it pretty well Imo given his size and lack of experience

If Pangai played FG now he'd suffocate in minutes

Taumololo started off playing very limited minutes in FG. His fitness is much improved in the last year and a bit, getting bigger minutes and pushing out good numbers.

Pangai is only 19 and has plenty of time to improve in that area. He's the next big thing imo.

Looking up now they are pretty much the same height and weight, he could definitely hold his own in short minutes in first grade no doubt. All he needs is a decent transition in his minutes and intensity, with his potential and age hopefully it's no issue.

Fitness isn't something you can acquire in 12 months guys. If Taumololo was playing limited minutes in FG when he was 18-19 that's because he was relatively fit for someone of his shape, type and age.

If Pangai can't even play half a game in NYC at the same age that says to me that he has a particular problem with cardiovascular endurance, not unlike Toka Likiliki who never was able get there. Him and a thousand other young forwards

Tevita has 2 older brothers who are about the same size.

David Pangai played as a giant winger for years in the real NRL, mostly for Newcastle Wests, but a few other clubs as well I think. He was one of the best players in the real NRL and had a few pre season games either for or against the Knights, but his workrate and fitness weren't NRL standard. (edit - actually I think he played some NSW cup for the Knights when Rip Taylor was coach)

Mosese or Moses Pangai was a great NYC player for North Queensland and made the Junior Kangaroos. He got a 2 year deal with Penrith but was released one year in to join Wests Tigers. He never got a fistgrade game for either club and now plays for Townsville in the Qld cup.

All of them are big boys with a lot of power and speed.

Taumalolo was dominating U20's as a 16 year old and regularly playing the 80 minutes carving out 200m+ games on a regular basis.

Only perceived lack of fitness was thrown down our throat by Neil Henry who for whatever reason didn't rate the guy. Taumalolo didn't hold back when he re-signed with the club earlier in the year saying he would be on the first plane to NZ had Henry still been coach.

Mosese also spent time down in Canberra last year where I'm sure I seen his name on the team sheet once or twice. I remember his debut was round 1 against the Titans a few years ago. Was the only Cowboy who had a go. I'm surprised he hasn't pushed on and played more FG.

Well apparently Taumololo had a huge pre-season before the 2014 season and that was his breakout year when he started playing big minutes.

Pangai usually plays 80 minutes when picked in the backrow, but lately I'd say about 60 in NYC when he's been switching between there and prop through games.

His fitness might not be where it needs to be at yet, but it's really not that concerning and something that can definitely improve. It is hardly Toka Likiliki bad anyway. TPJ also played the majority of last year for Mounties as an 18 year old so he is comfortable against seniors already. I agree with Joel, he could handle short minutes off the bench in FG.

Ahhh true, fair enough then.

Interesting that Mamo is out of NSW cup today - he might be part of the firstgrade squad now.

Yeah Leilua has played his last Knights game

Bring in Jake to fullback, Gagai back to centre with Sione left centre.

I'm about 40/60 in the Mamo to fullback situation... Gagai is just too impressive to bring him back to centre imo
