Joseph Leilua released by the Knights

The thing we are forgetting is that these players are essentially free, yes I understand we have to pay their contracts, what I mean is that Leilua IS leaving that's guaranteed as he said whether it is prior to June 30 or end of season. Let's just get something for him, Shillington turns 32 at the end of this month. He's only got 1-3 good years left IF we're lucky and let's face it we're probably not competing for a title in 2-3 years. Let's take a chance on these young kids, if Pangai comes through and is the next Taumalolo I'll be much happier seeing him run out in red and blue than against us. if they don't work out then what have we missed out on, Dave Shillington. Big deal he's destined for Super League soon, whether he takes the plane from Newcastle or Canberra doesn't bother me one bit (just a metaphor, I'm aware of where the major airports are in Australia).
 
Gagai really hasn't been as good as people are making out. Defensively he's been extremely poor, and all but for a couple of exciting carries he has basically been a lesser version of himself.

Put him back to the centre's and let Mamo smoke them up from the back

I reckon Mamo will need half a season to get comfortable at fullback in firstgrade, and we might as well give it to him now.

He's never been great defensively. That's why fullback is his best position. Limits the amount of tackles he has to make.
 
Not to mention he can get involved when he wants to, not waiting out wide for one of our halves to never give a good ball.

Mamo not even smoking it up NSW cup... how you expect him to in first grade?
Since switching to fullback Gagai leads the NRL for fullbacks in most of the attacking stats. He also looks to be our best ball player.

Lord has an eye for me now. I'll ensure that my next post goes something along the lines of 1+1=2 just to ensure he can't find a reason to sling mud

Having Gagai in at FB is refreshing and I enjoy having him there, in fact, I think he's done well there. But surely people can see that he has far too many imperfections to be considered our one and only option. Like, the guy gets carried 10m backwards in EVERY tackle lol

Put him back to the centre's where we need him now that BJ is gone. And use Mano for all that we know he's capable of. If it isn't working after a period, change it back!

Funnily enough, I think the club is about to do this exactly

That's fair enough. With Leilua gone, he will have to go back to the centres anyway. It's a shame to just halt any sort of development he was having there but it's our only real option now. Gids might yet be the fullback again if Tyrone & Mullo come back.
 
Gagai,s last game at F/B was a shocker he had no idea in defense and people want to keep this revolving door as our last line of defense (That makes no sense to me )You need someone with good defense as your last line ...Put him back to center where he,s killing it and bring Mamo up or put Kurt back there .

Getting carried back 10 metres every tackle? This has not happened this year at all. It was previously an issue but the depth that Gagai has at fullback has stopped this from happening. I've loved having him at fullback and it is literally the only positive that we've had over the last month or so. Keep him there and reshuffle the rest of the back line to accommodate him imo.

For those complaining about Gagai's defense at fullback, have you not see Mamo defend there?
What has Mamo done in the lower grades to suggest he's going to be a better fullback than Gagai?

95% of the people wanting Mamo at fullback over Gagai wouldn't have even watched a full game of reserve grade, if attacking potency is what Mamo brings Gagai is just as good if not better. Also Gagai is the much more superior ball player.

We need our spine to be as strong as it can as quickly as it can (as you can see our fans don't seem very patient with losing). We just can't afford another player swapped around, just for him to 'get used to' the position. After all we have used Sione, Gidley and Gagai there and we are just aren't even half way through the season.

Believe it or not, once upon a time Darren Lockyer was a very poor defensive fullback. That's something that can be taught quite easily, and it's a lot easier at fullback than at centre. So I don't take too much worry out of the fact Gagai's missed a few at the back - he is young and with good coaching will improve.

As for Pangai ... always seemed unlikely to me Canberra would let him go.
