Best Knights ever

Joey biffed the ball at his head during one game ... two guys that definitely didn't get along.

Sometimes you get stupid statements on here by people probably guilty of it myself once or twice but Billy is the only 1 that seems to do it consistantly .
Don't start. Billy does a great job. His opinion should be respected, you have been in the same boat as well mate.

As i said i have done it too..and thanx but ive been told allready and said nothing else .

This is a hard one, I've put together a first grade team and a reserves team of the guys who just missed out. Started watching the Knights in about 2000, but even then I was only 6, so it might be influenced by the players I've seen live vs on video etc.

1sts
1. Robbie O'Davis
2. Ashley Gordon
3. Matt Gidley
4. Adam MacDougall
5. Aku Uate
6. Matt Johns
7. Andrew Johns (vc)
8. Tony Butterfield
9. Danny Buderus
10. Paul Harragon (c)
11. Steve Simpson
12. Ben Kennedy
13. Billy Peden

14. Kurt Gidley
15. Sam Stewart
16. Marc Glanville
17. Mark Sargent

Coach: Mal Reilly

Reserves
1. Brad Godden
2. Darren Albert
3. Mark Hughes
4. Owen Cragie
5. Timana Tahu
6. Michael Hagan (c)
7. Jarrod Mullen
8. Josh Perry
9. Lee Jackson
10. Matt Parsons
11. Adam Muir
12. Paul Marquet
13. Matt Hilder

14. Glenn Grief
15. Clinton O'Brien
16. Troy Fletcher
17. Darius Boyd

Coach: Michael Hagan as Capt/Coach

Wouldn't mind seeing a game between these two actually...

Me too but the big 4 Hooker , 5/8 , 1/2back and f/back would let the reserves down as those 4 don't come anywhere near the 1st's big 4 imo.

Yeah, I never realised how few very good fullbacks and hookers we've had, whereas we've had lots of really good backrowers and centres/wings. We've also had some pretty great coaches, feels strange to comfortably leave out coaches like Warren Ryan, Wayne Bennett and Alan McMahon.

The other teams we could pick are 'best team of former Knights players now playing elsewhere' and 'best team of Newcastle juniors never to have played for the Knights', although it might make us depressed about some of the talent we've lost haha.

Your side is almost identical to mine turtonrd ... I had Tahu over Gordon ... Peden on the bench for Glanville to start ... and you made me realise OMG I FORGOT SAM STEWART!!!

I'd have him on my bench over Parsons. :P

How could you forget Slammin' Sam? He's even a Kiwi! He finished up with the Knights before I was even born, but he pretty much was the Knights in the early years, so he gets a spot.

God knows what I was thinking there!!!

Lee Jackson came to the Knights as a current English International, but he wouldn't give the ball to Johns when he called for it and there was one game where Johns actually called out to the coach to take him off. He was little more than a poor bench option at the Knights, and only made the bench because Mal Reily loved him.

To be fair to Jackson though IMO I thought he really made a difference in the 97GF when he came on. He was getting out of dummy half, taking Manlys markers out of play and providing the forwards with quality ball when it was most needed. I agree with Billy that he didn't live up to reputation but delivered the goods when it mattered most. Like and dare I say it, Sean Rudder in 01GF. IMO his best ever performance in Knights colours.

Brad Godden i thought was a good F/B but he was put to the wing so Robbie Odavis could go to F/B and a couple of weeks after that i was talking to Robbie and Glen Miller down on the lake they were going sking and i asked him why they changed and he said that Brads hands just were'nt good enough so he was given the job .
In my opinion it was a great move for the club as Robbie had great hands and skill and was a champion ...Also you could'nt have met 2 nicer guys they did'nt know my son and i from a bar of soap but asked us if we would like to go skiing with them .
Pity i had to say no as i had to get my son back to his mums .
Alan McMahon got this club going on sheer toughness but for me Mal Reilly was the one i met him twice and i reckon you could break an iron bar on him and he would'nt have noticed he was a tough hard man but quick to put his hand out and say hi. Kinda reminded me of my dad...

You can disagree without insulting, it's not that hard.

I'm in my 50's and i've spent my entire adult life working with maximum security prisoners and in the field of forensic psychiatry. I've literally been abused, insulted and threatened on a daily basis by people who would actually do me harm if they could.
I barely notice any abuse on the net, but if I do, the only effect it will have is to make me think a lot less of the abuser.
If you think you can change my opinion with anything other than logical argument, you are mistaken.

Your not the only one to cop abuse in your life Ive ridden with a bike gang all my life so i know what verbal and physical abuse is about too mate difference is there were no bars befween me and my enemies . Try walking into a pub with your colours on and finding 6 guys from a rival gang i took 3 out but that mistake cost me 2 months in hospital so i to know what abuse is ...
