Origin Eligibility

From what i understand SBW will now be eligible for Australia and NSW when he comes bk to league. Thoughts on that??

That's if he chooses to. And if he does that will surely be the last straw in this Origin farce, to see Sonny Bill represent NSW & Aus would be an absolute joke.

I have heard the same thing, but I don't know how exactly? He doesn't have any parents or anything from Australia, and he doesn't qualify on residency grounds (like Tamou did).

I think it's being made up, that one.

Probably cause he was a Bulldogs Junior from the age of 13 or something like that.

I'm pretty sure he's only eligible because he played for NSW as a junior. Pretty sure it was U17's

He's eligible for NSW for that reason, but to play origin you must be available for Aus (why Uate transferred from Fiji to Aus) and SBW isn't eligible for Aus.

So therefore he can't play origin.

Apparently (Im not sure how) He is eligible for Australia.

Maybe because he's been away from the game for so long, his NZ contract (or whatever it is) is no longer there, therefore allowing him to pledge allegiance to Australia.

Actually i do remember reading somewhere it has something to do with him not taking part of the last world cup

and apparently there is a rule if you have spent over 3 years living in one country you are eligible for selection by that Country if you didn't take part in the last World cup

Whatever are the two biggest islander races in the NRL they should have an Origin thrown together for them next year, 1st game at one of their chosen venues, 2nd in Melbourne so we don't have to keep going to that place and the NRL can still do their silly fight with AFL, the 3rd game at the other teams chosen venue across the ditch, done, all the money made can be for the players and split whatever way they like, why are they making it so difficult?they want the game to grow, grow it already!

But he hasn't spent three years living in Aus, by the time origin rolls around next year he will have only been there for a few months?
