Roberts vs. Nightingale. Rucks.

Jonno

The 18th Man
What was the difference?

Roberts gets penalised in todays match for taking out the legs of an opposition player in mid-air. He cops a nudge from the 'blockers' and doesnt even attempt a tackle.

Bill Harrigans excuse for Nightingale was that McManus bumped him into Naiqama. StGeorge try is awarded, and ends up being the difference in the game.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

How come it seems the other side can get away with murder in the ruck area? third men in, extra efforts, flops, hands on the ball. Ive seen this numerous times from cronulla today (and Brisbane/STGI the last few weeks). We hardly ever seem to get ruck penalties. Even when we try to milk them.

We are always penalised for this early in the game, 3-1 count today (6-1 count last week, 3-1 count the week before), which means we have to be more cautious in the play the ball area.

They made dodgy calls both ways.

Yes there were dodgy calls both ways, but the only reason the sharks didnt get a few calls at the end was because the game was close, when the refs knew it should have been nowhere near that close due to lopsided penalty count.

Yeah towards the end of the game when the Sharks were coming back the ref wasn't making silly decisions. I spose it's better than when it really counted.

haha pretty sure we got away with the biggest of them, being the steve southern cheap shot on gardner. Could have been a penalty.

well im impressed with the boys 4 a long time now if we had 1/2 the injuries we have now we were gone and didnt look like winning games at the moment we have 1/2 our 1st grade side injured and were winning and if not were getting close as with manly a nd broncos next yr evarn kafusi snowden and faaoso will be awesome pack rotation imo and tyrone roberts never looked out of place housten and mika played well as did sau and mcdonell

I find it funny that when it happened to the dragons, the commentators were, well he was going for the ball so it's ok, but today it was, he's going for the ball, but he put him in a bad position, definitely a penalty

what about when sau was upended as a defender by the attacker? i know he landed ok but still was put into a dangerous position by the attacker (lifting him, and up over the shoulders) Now if a defender did that to an attacker itd be a penalty so why is it not for the other way round? Sau was put into a dangerous position, should have been a penalty to us???

Difference is who does what. The referees under Mr Bill 'We never make a mistake' Harrigan seem to decide who is the better side prior to the game and referee accordingly. If Wes had taked Nightingale out vice versa, the pea would have ebeen blasted out of the whistle. And Jarrod Hayne is in all sorts of trouble for retaliating. With five referees, no one saw the swinging arm by Payne?

I think both incidents were clear penalties. The rule is there to protect the player catching the ball. Although there was no malice or intent, Tyrone still got in the way and was not trying to catch the ball. The lack of a penalty for the Wes one was a disgraceful non decision.
