Idris leaves Bulldogs for Gold Coast

From how I read this, Tinkler hasnt even offered Idris a contract. The KNIGHTS offered this contract, just like they originally offered Snowden a contract. The media is making up a lot of bull**** in this whole Tinkler takeover saga.

Personally I think Tinkler is the greatest thing ever to happen to us! So sick of the club being run on the smell of an oily rag.

But this offer is from the Knights, there was an article a few months ago saying we'd be after some high profile recruits this year because we have a lot of cap room in 2012.

Surely they should wait untill the vote on new ownership before making offers to players. Tinkler should wait untill he buys the club too before offering players $$$. I can understand Tinkler contacting snowden saying 'wait out on signing anything mate we are really keen to offer you some big $$$ in a few weeks time when we take over, if we take over', but in terms of tinkler offering players 400k a year and the knights staff offering other players 350k a year at the same time but ignoring the snowden offer, its all a bit of a mess. They should all wait a month.
 
This is stupid. Yes the money is fantastic but with a salary cap in place we need to spend it smartly and not just offer big money to anyone that is available. We will end up with a bunch of overpaid guys and no depth.

At the moment if feels like we are thinking we have to spend now or else it will vanish. Why are we making all of these decisions now. What if someone like Likiliki was to come in and prove himself a fantastic first grader this season only for us to have already signed Idris.

This money doesn't have to be spent now, we have all year to build a squad for next year. More importantly lets work out who the coach will be in 2012 and let him make a few decisions. Bennett would not be interested in joining a club where all the signing decisions have been made for him.

He hasn't offered anyone any contracts that includes Snowden. He is not in a position to offer contracts. Tinkler has told Snowden to wait until the privatisation goes through before making his decision. Tinkler has probably 'shown him the money' but he has not officially offered him a contract.

My bad, it says in the paper Tinkler has also set his sights on Jamal but later in the article it has the knights making the offer.
 
350k is massive overs for Idris. He has got a lot more potential compared to Junior, but I doubt it highly Sau would be on anymore than 250k per season.
 
I never thought it would turn out this way with Tinkler having such a negative impact on the clubs recruitment. Like all Knights fans I expected him to be able influence a deal getting over the line but not to take recruitment into his own hands. Snowden & Idris are good players but there are not great players and both have their flaws. Rick Stone should be spearheading the recruitment and then calling in Tinkler to get the deal over the line.

Has Tinkler even thought about the salary cap?? If we sign Idris (who we don't need) then depending on where he plays (second row & centres) we will have to lose someone out of our current roster and it won't be fringe players like Steve southern or shannon Mcdonnell or low paid players like Adam McDougall it will be a quality player to cover Idris's salary.

Tinkler should be in talks with Stone about the recruitment strategy so everyone is on the same page. Who would you prefer Jamal Idris or Tom Learoyd Lahrs???

The one thing Brian Smith done when he was here was bridge the gap between our best players and our fringe players, he didn't believe in the one marquee player because that meant he had to settle with 3-4 lowly paid players. I don't mind having the one marquee player but look at the Cowboys as an example with JT the second he is injured or off the field they get hammered and it was the same with us when we had Joey. Smith changed that when he took over the club and now the results of our football team don't rest on one player like the Cowboys (JT) & Eels (Hayne). Is Jamal Idris worth unsettling the balance of our squad?

Tinkler should be offering Kurt Gidley a big salary first as he is the heart and soul of this football team.

We already have two marquee players in the team though, Gidley and Uate. Personally, I would rather keep Macdougall as opposed to getting Idris.

1. Maybe Tinkler is not of the belief Stone will be there next year? Because when he gains control of the club, Stone won't be there. It has already been reported that Tinkler is after a big name coach.

2. I will be extremely surprised if Southern and McDonnell get contract extensions. We know Adam will retire.

Our Marque player is Gidley. A slight gap, then Mullen and DeGois on the next level.
 
Idris is good but wouldnt you rather a dugan type player? He would be the first player i'd be chasing if i had the money.

Well he'd be on twice as much money as Uate, plus is he plays a more important position then winger, has been in the comp for almost a decade, has played every level of the game, captained his side. Seems to fit the bill of a marquee player.
