Where would you like to see a new NRL Club launched?

Personally I'd say Wellington and a second team in Brisbane are the best two candidates. Perth would be great to spread the game, and Wellington has that potential too. The second Brisbane side would just be a huge boost to the game financially.

Central Coast seems a bit pointless - not a ginormous area and it's already close to other well covered NRL areas. It'd be my fourth choice.

I don't really see how a Newtown return is insane, especially if the Sharks folded. I just love Newtown they are an awesome team haha :).

But yeah like you said, New Zealand and another QLD team should have more priority of launching a new club, there is higher demand for a new team there and much more space.

There's a reason they folded in 1982 ... even the most hardcore Newtown fan would admit it is impossible that they will return.

If the Sharks ever folded, I think you'd see the Central Coast team start immediately to replace them. There are too many Sydney teams as it is ... if one drops out the NRL will relish the opportunity to get the CC team up and running. Deep down they probably wish it would happen. You'll never see a new Sydney team, I'm afraid.

How come Newtown folded in the first place?

I would much rather a second NZ team, mainly so New Zealand rugby league develops and broadens and so the game grows bigger on a whole.

NZ deserve a second team IMO, it would turn out a big hit.

I think Newtown were planning to take a year off and relocate to Cambpelltown ... this was in the days when Wests played out of another park ... but then they pretty much went bust and never came back. Basically their finances were the main problem.

I think a second NZ team should be the number one priority, but I don't think the NRL sees it anywhere near like that. But I've said many times before, so much of rugby league's profile in NZ hinges on how the Warriors do each year. Another NZ team would increase interest exponentially, I think.

I reckon league would totally take off here ... it was almost at the point of rivalling union back in 2008 when the Warriors made the grand final qualifier, and then the Kiwis won the World Cup. Imagine how much potential there is to grow the game further with a second NRL side here!

I just had a bit of a think about it then, you're quite right, it would be virtually impossible for a Newtown side to be run successfully in the modern game. There location would be a major issue because they are squished into one suburb with South Sydney, Parramatta, St George and Wests all around them not enough area, popularity would be a concern.

The sharks wont fold. Im sorry but i think u read too much newspaper, then belive too much of what u read. They are an easy target, but the fact is they are financially better than they were 12 months ago.

They own their own stadium (which is now in talks of Hosting other codes etc (bringing in more money)
All the new board has alot of new ideas which are good business ideas, at the end of the day, these clubs are business's, and as long as u arent pulling yourself into more debt, your making money (in a way) which is whats happening.
The Sharks lost LG, which was a very good sponsor, mainly due to the off feild ****.

I dont think they will fold, as it takes alot to be declared down and out now, and while theres sponsors, merchandising etc, plus the new development due to start, money will come in.

A new club in the NRL doesnt mean a club goes.

IMO in 10 years time there should be 20 clubs Australia wide, Split into 2 conferences, which play there own finals, then play a grand final between each conference premier.

The only way for the NRL to grow is to actually grow it, not trim it then let it blossom.

Another NZ club is a must, for the simple fact, right now the KIWIS are rulling the sport (in numbers).

Another QLD team for sure, whether it be central qld, or a second Brisane based team (which would make the whole 3rd party agreements in the cap etc fairer as Broncs wont have free run of a huge city for coin)

A Perth based club, they need to take it west, i know years back it didnt work, but I think its time to give it a go, whats the worst that can happen?

Either CC Bears, or an Adelaide team would be good. Bears for the heritage feelings, (althought it would be great to be Norths again), or Adelaide for the expansion idea.

20 teams with a perfectly formed comp would be the best way to do it.

Say each team plays each team once, so thats 19 games, then they play the other teams in there conference once. thats 28 rounds, 2 more than present, NO BYES.

I think it needs to expand, or AFL's expansion will kill the game first
 
TBH, i would hate it if the comp was split into conferences. I might be for the better though if we wanted to expand across Australia. In 2013 i would bring Wellington & West Brisbane because as long as there are as many Sydney teams as there is, there is no need for the Central Coast. Once a Sydney club folds i would be more than happy for CC to come in. Wellington & West Brisbane are extremely good spots to have teams money mise. After 2013 in the next expansion period the NRL needs to expand to PNG & Perth. Perth have a great supporter base which is slowly rising. PNG may not have the stadium just yet but they love Rugby League. By the next expansion period after 2013, they would be more than ready to support a team.

Thats why I love Newcastle so much. Such a massive area with just one team...Its awesome.
 
Would love to see a new QLD team. Not sure if i want another Brisbane team yet, Though i think thats what theyd go with. Would also love to see a PNG side but doubt that will happen.

As much as PNG love their League, I really couldn't see a new Rugby League team there. It would be really hard for a club there to attract players because there is so much trouble and corruption that takes place there.
 
yeh plus couldnt see the locals shelling out for an expensive day at the footy with the kids... and club merchandise
 
Just a question but if Wellington came in would the Warriors have to change their name back to Auckland it happened in A-League when Gold Coast and NQ came in the Qld Roar became Brisbane Roar???

I don't think they'd have to, but it would make sense if they did.

Although just being the Warriors as they are at the moment doesn't take anything away from Wellington.

I'll never know why they dropped the Auckland though ... not like they ever take home games to other parts of the country. They don't even take trials to other parts of the country!!!
 
I'm still a firm believer on a team here on the Coast, preferably not the 'Bears', we'd need a new name, because it's a coast team not North Sydney.
I also think Central Coast would be one of the most likely locations that will get the next team, we've got the stadium, we'd get the crowds and supporters.

Yeah I'm hoping the central coast too would make sence.

Imagine getting a derby day like the Jets & Mariners in the a-league, would be epic.
 
Central Coast Bears need to come in. I Want Bears flags on the bridge in Gosford rather than the Mariners and it would be awsome to have an NRL game here every 2nd week.

However before the day I die Id love to see a new rugby league competition for pacific island nations in the future sometime. However for this to happen a good 4 or 5 teams would have had to have competed in the nrl otherwise their competition wouldn't have the money or the interest. Then we could have a serious look at adding 2nd teams in Adelaide, Perth & Melbourne & Newcastle. The potential is there.

Really like the time line ....... but here is the bad news, the NRL will most likely only bring in one team every new media, not two ....... WA Reds are a given for 2013 after that a Central Queenslands side may be or a team from the pacific Islands ....... The only thing for sure is the rebirth of the Reds is only 6 months away from being offical
