Uate wins Dally M winger of the year

of coarse Vatuvais the better player atm, but IMO Uate had a better season. As i said before, a full season by Vatuvai would have made it VERY interesting. He coulda put up 25+ tries, which would have trumped all uates stats like Linebreaks and tackle breaks.

But to suggest Vatuvai is at an advantage because he gets through so much more work is ridiculous. A hit up just means its one or two passes off the ruck. A pretty meaningless stat seeing newcastle play a highly expansive brand of footy. Uate does more work taking pressure off the forward then anyone at the Knights! well maybe except Gidley (esp. @ FB). Heck, this season they, along with Sau too, have done work that should be the forwards job 99 times outa 100.

If Uate continues to improve like he has this season, and show consistency (which his has really improved too) he'll be up there with Vatuvai as the best winger in the world. It takes more then one good season to earn that though. And lets not forget Vatuvai is still improving too, so its going to be one heck of a battle for top spot.

You must be joking right? Cleary is a disgrace.. i do agree he has got some form out of them in the back end of the season. And he has over acheived with the team they have been able to field, but hes awful. I think it's more an attitude thing at the warriors, and Cleary doesn't seem to have a handle on it.
 
To say that MacDougall wasn't part of Uates success this year is stupid, hell even I wasn't impressed with the combo in he final 5 rounds, Uate was getting pretty much no ball from MacDougall. But for the first 21 rounds of the year, MacDougall and Uate were brilliant together.

I think it changed when Uate stole that try off him against Manly or the Dogs, can't remember. I know they said it didn't mean anything, but it definitely wasn't the same after, apart from Uate giving him the try the next game.

I think Uate needs to work on his ball control mostly next year, he made lots of line breaks, and tackle busts this year, but the ones that he didn't make, nearly always ended in drop balls. There was a few times this year he put us under pressure by dropping in inside our 20 off one of his breaks
 
Well the way i see it is that Uate had a larger workload this year in metres, dummy-half runs, linebreaks etc. than Vatuvei; therefore he deserves the award. If Vatuvei played the whole season i have no doubt he would dominate Uate in everything; therefore making him desrve it, but the fact is, he didn't play all season, so he didn't do as much as Uate; making Uate deserve it more.
 
I'm a bIg fan of Uate's but I don't think they should change the rules and let him play for Australia at this stage he should have to wait until he is legimately eligible IMO!!

He is legitimately eligible now i think. He has been accepted to play for an australian team because he has now played in australia for a certain amount of years, no rules changed. Correct me if i'm wrong

1 Akuila Uate- 39
2 Blake Ferguson- 38
3 Todd Carney- 38
4 Billy Slater- 37
5 Benji Marshall- 37
6 Jarryd Hayne- 36
7 Josh Dugan- 34
8 Anthony Watmough- 34
9 Issac Luke- 33
10 Greg Bird - 32

Looking at the calibre of players in that 10, I dont feel quite as bad for Uate as I first did but still, he needs to improve that part of his game dramatically for him to go to that next level
 
yeah thats true but if you look at the players on the list they all are probly having alot more touches then aku

Well his coaching record is making the finals 3 out of the last four years, and doing very well in them - only year they didn't make it they were dealing with Sonny Fai's death.

The attitude has seemed really good in those four years, I think ... and if they have overachieved with the players they have (no doubt about it this year, and the 07 and 08 top four spots were with Michael Witt and Grant Rovelli in the halves) then what is it about him that makes him a bad coach exactly?

It;ll be close between him and Gidley! It's likely that Slater will be fullback, meaning he'll have to beat Hayne or Vatuvei for the wing spot.

You are wrong, it has nothing to do with how long he's lived in a country. He played for Fiji at the Pacific Cup in November last year, so has to stand down for two years before playing for another nation.

Unless Australia somehow convince the RLIF to break the rules, for some weird reason.

Errors are hard to judge though, especially with regards to wingers.

Going up for an attacking bomb on the 5th tackle and knocking it forward, isnt exactly the same as knocking it on cold in ur own 20. A lot of wingers errors are made attempting to score tries, IMO those ones shouldnt be counted, because its something you can live with. Unless of coarse u knock it on cold attempting to put the ball down, now those should be worth 2!!
