Round 8: Knights v Broncos @ EAS

Houston named at 10. I thought Simpson would play as a prop? I spose the team named on Tuesdays is irrelevant with Smithy.

scotty

it's your time to shine :)

good luck mate !

hope he has a blinder

6.rogers v 6.lockyer
7.dureau v7.wallace

our halves look pretty poor ,lol

I have a feeling Rogers wont be playing this weekend, neither will Mullen. :fist: On a better note we have a pretty experienced ref this weekend (Archer) and no Harrigan or Mahamad

Referee: Tony Archer, Phil Haines
Touch Judges: Grant Atkins, Steve Chiddy
Video Referee: Phil Cooley

mullo 1-2 weeks

sau, gids almost certain, and rogers likely to play

vuna had his first game back in local league last weekend. he is nearly 110kg atm, smithy wants him back to 90-95. he wont be back in FG for a while.

really hope mullens not out for long at all, want to see him get another crack at origin, he deserves it.
good to see gids is playing:)
& sucks about the other injuries aswell :(
but not too bad of a team named.

Does anyone know why Karawana is in the side at the moment... iv not EVER seen him do anything even half decent.... is he carving it up at lower grades or something?
I thought Nadira had a few good touches last time he played so surely he would have deserved the bench spot more!?

Brian smith is giving him a go in first grade to see how he goes, i guess

We will get smashed this weekend i'm afraid.

Knights 4
Broncos 44

There backline is so much better than ours i hope they all have an off night.

yes, he dead set looks like Andrew Johns when playing for Maitland.

he absolutely dominates at Real NRL level.

deserves his shot and is more versitile than Ndaira.

We even with injuries have too many good players and are to well coached to get smashed like that we are miles better then Parra and are really well coached, it will be a close game.

Well in last years correspongin encounter we only got beat 34-22, and that was also due to Gidleys lacklustre goal kicking, and a small 5-10 minute period of no concentration at the end of the first half when they scored 3 tries. Last years Broncos side was definately better than this years and our side has gained a season of experience since then and we are definately a much better football side.

In saying that we do have a number of injuries, but i do expect a close match.

Mullen didn't play that game either nor did Simmo or Maddog(iirc)

good question. He looked out of his depth last year even in the NSW cup...he did nothing.nada. zip. duck egg. why he is still even at our once mighty club is the mystery of mysteries...

I know Ndaira could be the best choice for 5/8 cause Rogers is in quite some doubt this weekend. It wouldnt be a bad idea if McManus plays F/B, Kurt to 5/8 and Lulia to the wing.

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS V BRISBANE BRONCOS
Saturday 2nd May, 7.30pm
EnergyAustralia Stadium
Referees: Tony Archer, Phil Haines

HEAD TO HEAD
Broncos 23 wins, Knights 9 wins

FORM GUIDE
Knights: LWLWWWL
Broncos: WWWLWWW

The underrated Knights have been super impressive this year, but this week’s game is looking pretty ominous against the rampaging Broncos.

Newcastle were overrun by the Benji Marshall-inspired Tigers last weekend, but were still one forward-pass call away from clinching a victory.

Coach Brian Smith wasn’t happy with the performance anyway, blasting his team for slackening off in the second half.

The news then got worse for the Knights, who have lost Jarrod Mullen and Ben Cross to long-term injuries.

Meanwhile Brisbane is looking red hot, with Darren Lockyer having a blinder in the Broncos’ 40-8 thrashing of Parramatta last weekend.

With a sensational backline and a hard-working forward pack, the Broncos are deserved league leaders and probably front-runners for the premiership in 2009.

Still, the Knights have gone into games as underdogs and come away as winners on more than one occasion this season.

KEY MATCH UP
Kurt Gidley v Karmichael Hunt

Gidley is always important for the Knights but his performance will be crucial this week.

With Mullen out of action, Gidley will need to provide some spark in attack to help out halves Scott Dureau and Ben Rogers, while the fullback will also need to nullify the kicking game of Broncos halves Lockyer and Peter Wallace.

Hunt is always rock solid in defence but he’s been a real threat in attack for Brisbane this season, scoring six tries and linking superbly with the likes of Lockyer and Justin Hodges down the right edge.

James McManus v Israel Folau
McManus could be a bolter for the NSW Origin side, where his main job could be keeping Israel Folau under control.

McManus is a strong finisher and makes no mistakes when the Knights have the ball, but is also a terrific defender and one winger who can rival Folau in the air.

Folau, of course, is a freak – a big, fast, flying teenage sensation whose arrival at Brisbane this season ensured the Broncos had the best backline in the NRL. McManus will take one big step towards Origin selection if he can ensure Folau doesn’t get over the tryline.

PUNTERS GUIDE
Head to head:
Knights $2.40; Broncos $1.55
The Knights have claimed three upset wins already this year but without Mullen and Cross this looks like a very big ask.

The home crowd will give Newcastle a boost, but we still can’t look past Brisbane. Broncos by 12.

CASUALTY WARD
Knights:
Dan Tolar – knee (Rnd 9), Jarrod Mullen – shoulder (Rnd 11), Cameron Ciraldo – ankle (indefinite), Wes Naiqama – hamstring (indefinite), Ben Cross – biceps (season), Cooper Vuna – knee (Rnd 9)
Broncos:
Ben Te’o – ankle (Rnd 9)

Its tempting to tip against the Knights :doubt: But I do hope the boys can really pull it together.

I'm not tempted. I'm not losing any money if I tip the Knights and the Broncos win. ;) :Knights:
