Channel 9 are a disgrace

The game last night, started at the SFS at 8 and ended at around 10. On TV, it ended at about 11:15 with hundreds of ads chucked in.

The Footy Show is a farce these days too - just end it.

So much for "Still the One"

I don't think they use that catch phrase anymore, They were going to go with "Still in the top three" but it didn't have the same ring to it.

So far their coverage of both pool 1 games has been shameful, atleast show it live on fox and dealyed on Nine and stop cheapening the event.

How bad is it? You would think being the World Cup and all they would make it priority. Adding to that, 60 minutes and Elf is more important in their book. A joke, utter disgrace.

WORLD Cup organisers will seek talks with Channel Nine boss David Gyngell this week after proof emerged the network has dudded rugby league fans.
The Daily Telegraph has unearthed a damning media release showing Nine pledged to show the World Cup's marquee games live.
But last night the network - which only weeks ago was heavily criticised for breaking a promise to show the NRL finals live - again gave the football the boot by showing World Cup games on delay.
In an official release on April 19, 2007, the station stated: "Nine will televise games including the 'Super Pool' matches, semi-finals and final of the 10-team tournament commencing in Sydney on October 25. The Nine Network will televise nine of these live on Saturday and Sunday nights.''

The then CEO of Nine Eddie McGuire gushed: "Nine is the home of rugby league ... and this exciting partnership with the Rugby League International Federation demonstrates our continued commitment to the sport.''
Nine's comments were backed up by an Rugby League World Cup release from May 8 year.
"Host Broadcaster the Nine Network will televise all nine Super Pool matches and all finals live in prime time,'' it stated. The Super Pool involves Australia, England, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
But telecast of Saturday's opening England-PNG game was delayed by 90 minutes. And the station's decision to delay broadcasts of last night's Australia-New Zealand match from the Sydney Football Stadium meant the host country was one of the few among 100 nations taking the game not to get the match live.
Nine's head of sport Steve Crawley wouldn't comment to The Daily Telegraph last night.
Tournament director and Rugby League International Federation chairman Colin Love refused to criticise the network, saying: "Channel Nine are our partners and they felt that by putting the game on at 8.30pm, they would not have to move 60 Minutes and it would deliver strong ratings. It also means that the telecast did not go up against the gate for the game.
"I'll have a talk to David Gyngell this week but that would have happened anyway. We would always review things after the first weekend but it worth remembering the game is on live all around the world and we have got a prime time spot in Australia.''
Love would not confirm that Nine were in breach of contract, citing privacy provisions. The situation reached such an extraordinary stage yesterday that the Australia-NZ game was likely to be shown earlier in Queensland by secondary rights holders Fox Sports than it would on Nine. It is expected that situation will arise again unless Nine brings telecasts forward.
RLWC could hand or sell games to other broadcasters if Nine does not meet its commitments or seek compensation but Love ruled that out, saying: "We are not about to go out and sue or litigate against our partners.''

Great stuff Colin "I'm paying myself to run the RLWC" Love

You poor guys living over there, it is beyond belief that the main games are not being broadcast live in the country the tournament is being held in.

Rugby league should have ditched Nine years ago, they deserve better (a station that actually supports the game).

It was pretty horrible considering after EACH try the ads went for like 5 mintues. It was pretty ridiculous. And watching Live scores is horrible :fist:

The part that was the most pathetic, they took an ad break as the Video ref was pending on the big screen. Like, what the?

:applause: Absolutely right, James. It's disgraceful that the host nation doesn't get to see the tournament live. Nine is a crap network from what people on here have said over the past few months about this and the Olympics. Bin them!!

Nine didn't do the Olympics...that was Channel 7.

Problem is that nobody wants RL rights in aus anymore, Seven has AFL & V8's and Ten has AFL, NFL(HD) Nascar, MotoGP and F1 (even though they show most of these on delay they are paying big bucks for the rights)

NRL is bent over the barrel and cannot move to another network, especially considering the owners have a vested interest in both the game and the tv broadcaster.

Colin Love would prefer that every supporter go out and subscribe to Fox, he has no interest in pleasing free to air supporters, take monday night games as an example, if you don't have fox you cannot even get a radio broadcast outside of Sydney.

But they have the next olympics..fmd its gonna be a farce!

Nine and Foxtel have the Olympics in 2010 and 2012. I hope they sort out their crap before then...

I think Triple M may stream their coverage online. I hope they did/do.

I think you will find it is the commonwealth games in 2010,

Yes triple m stream online, but not all regional fans have internet and cannot get the live stream.

I meant the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Ten and, yet again, Foxtel have the rights to the Commonwealth Games that year. Nine and Foxtel have the 2010 Winter and 2012 Summer Olympics.

Within a few years, most regional folk will have internet of some sort. And live streams aren't so bad on dial-up...I've done it before.
