Worst year ever?

I’m trying to remember back to the spoon years. But in recent memory this would easily to be the worst year as a Knights supporter. And not forgetting NSW losing the series.

Not only getting the spoon but our diabolical attack made watching the team play almost like a chore. We played uninspiring, boring football. The only minor positive is we held our own in defence until that fell off a cliff late season. The Broncs winning the GF rubbed salt into the wound.

I’m calling this year a changing of the guard that needed to happen. I suspect Parr, POS and club were expecting a dip in performance, although not expecting a full capitulation. I’m not sure if they were planning to axe AOB but that hand would have been forced. You could argue this was a blessing, that they had no choice but to sack him.

Well on a positive it would be virtually impossible for us to go any worse than this year. We have cleared the decks ready for a new start. I will be here next year for the roller coaster ride to start again. Forever Knights.
 
2016 was definitely the worst. We only won one game and drew one game … we got more points from the bye than from actual results.

Attack yielded 305 points vs 338 points this year. Defence conceded 800 points vs 638 this year. -495 for and against compared to -300 this year.

Still miles away from those dark dark days.
 
The Brown spoons were worse on paper, but in those years we had the illusion that Brown had a vision to get us back on track, so it didn't feel that bad.
It turned out that Brown was only good at blowing things up, and not at rebuilding.
We went into this year thinking we could make top 8 and maybe even top 4, and every time something could go wrong, it did. Every player who started looking good for us got injured at the worst possible time.

I really don’t know what to say after reading this post.
It probably says everything about the Knights atm.
Let’s HOPE it’s better in 2026.

Spot on Billy. Injuries and a coach that run out of ideas.

This year was worse imo.
At least back then they looked like they were having a crack and we were building towards something.

This year was the most boring football I have ever seen.
 
I think 2015 was worse than this year. Started out with a bang winning 4 in a row and then only won another 4 with Stone getting sacked in his second stint. And then we got another 2 spoons with Brown

i can’t remember turning off games in 2016, I remember watching and had a running joke with lots of mates that we could maybe win a game this year and then when the year was done I was excited to see if we could double it in 2017. 😆

In the last 2 months I don’t reckon I watched a full 80mins of Newcastle combined. I’ve never done that since I started following them and the reason is exactly the same reason why you struggled, it was a ****ing boring snooze fest. IF we managed to hang onto the ball for a full set they never ever looked remotely dangerous or likely, even when attacking the try line with a full set. You just knew they’d blow it and show absolutely nothing to get excited about and then the opposite team would go the length of the field and score or make 80 easy meters.

Dreadful.

I hope that brand of football is scrunched up and thrown into the fireplace, never to be seen again.

The boring way we played was a major thing for me too. AOB was stuck trying to do what teams were doing 10 years ago - it worked then, but the game has moved on now. He was too arrogant to admit he was wrong or try anything else it seemed.
I am also sad to say that I really began hoping we would get smashed just to force the hand of management to replace the coach. It looked like he was gonna stay for a while there.

Bring on next year, I know it wont be a quick fix, but I'm excited to see what a fresh set of eyes can do with this team.

I think at the time a lot of us (including me) were saying it's just round one, we'll improve, it'll take a game or two to click. But in hindsight I think that round 1 Canberra game is one of the most depressing Knights games ever haha.

Didn't turn off games back then because you knew, each week we were getting belted and a win was very unlikely. So you knew what you were signing up for.

This past season, wasn't like that. Injuries killed us and a coach offering nothing made the games very difficult to take.

Worse/Better is always subjective. 2016 was worse in some ways, this year was worse in others.
 
From the Warriors game I could say it was the worst period, honestly we weren’t in a game at all from that point on. But no I couldn’t say this season was the worst. We were playing multiple players way out of their depth through injury, pretty much from round 5 and just couldn’t hold our hands up.
 
I’ve just never accepted the “in 2016 they always tried but didn’t have the talent” argument.

Look at those team lists and tell me that’s a worse roster than the Dogs of a few years ago.

They were losers and they were quitters. There is no excuse to only win one game. Ever. That was the worst season and it’s not close.

I think there was a bit of a throw in the towel effect after some of those rough losses. Just never recovered from it. Should have never lost that Roosters with the try that wasn’t a try, and then having a dig for half of it in those Raiders and Storm games.
Seemingly losing a different guy each week in that stretch as well.

2016 was definitely the worst of the lot. Just watching games knowing they won’t win them. Being a F/A boost for everyone. Not pretty
