The Queensland side is in for Game 1.

As expected Tamika Upton is in the side, as well as former Knights Romy Teitzel and Emma Manzelmann, no word on when the NSW squad is released but I'd expect us to have a few in there too.

Exciting that it'll be a 3-game series this year, as it should've been since the rebranding to State of Origin.

Not sure why they play origin before the season starts. 🤔
As they build the number of teams in the NRLW, scheduling will be a thing and I could see it more closely intertwined with the mens SOO….

But at the moment I am just happy for 2 thing:

the key players are developing match fitness and getting games under their belt before the series starts, so they get the chance to play at ‘origin intensity’ and have some capacity to build match fitness before this series, and

We have a 3 game series that provides the ability to have a clear and genuine series result from this year on👍🏻.

Already got my tickets for game 2 in Newie and can’t wait for the fireworks…and I hope we are 1 up from game 1 in magic round and get the chance to create an atmosphere at MJS for a series victory with the Blues in Newie in June😉 and it becomes the regular NSW cauldron for future NRLW SoO series for years to come

GO THE BLUES!!!

It'd be great if they could schedule it a few rounds into the women's competition. Maybe that will happen in a few years, the NRLW season starts around now, then men's and women's origins played together.

Yeah, I think it will get there James…but while the number of NRLW teams needs to expand to lengthen the season and be more in line with the NRL, I think it is a smart move to embed Women’s SOO as a stand alone 3 game product, tying it into magic round, picking Newcastle as the NSW venue for SOO 2, etc.

I think it is smart move to try and get it established in the prime time NRL season, build it’s status as a parallel stand alone product and increase the general Rugby League veiwership of womens rugby league.

Maybe, but the quality just didn’t seem to be there last season with it being the first top level game of the year. At least it’s three games this time, though.

Telegraph reporting Jesse Southwell has been left out of the game 1 team. Their "expected" team:

1. Emma Tonegato
2. Jaime Chapman
3. Jess Sergis
4. Isabelle Kelly
5. Tiana Penitani
6. Corban Baxter
7. Rachel Pearson
8. Millie Boyle
9. Keeley Davis
10. Caitlan Johnston
11. Kezie Apps
12. Yasmin Clydsdale
13. Olivia Kernick

14. Taliah Fuimaono
15. Sarah Togatuki
16. Olivia Higgins
17. Grace Kemp

18. Kirra Dibb

Extra glad Kylie Hilder didn't get the Knights job after this.

- Of the back 5 I'd say only Chapman and Kelly are deserving, but the other 3 are "faces of the league" with commentary jobs
- Southwell & Dibb are comfortably the 2 best NSW halves, no idea where they think points are coming from with this spine
- Davis continues to get picked for rep teams by some miracle
- Higgins finally on the bench at least after being the starting hooker for the last 3 premiership sides
- Apps is well past her best, Kernick on the edge and Taufa or H Southwell in the middle would make way more sense
- Fuimaono isn't good in general and even less sense with Higgins on the bench as well, only 2 real forwards

Good for Olivia Higgins if she makes it.
She has been getting better every year. You could just about play her as a lock in club football at least.

They'll learn the hard way when that QLD side dusts them. I know Hannah has had a hard time with injury the last couple of years but you'd think she'd be in the team on talent. Weird that Apps is picked, don't think she's as good as she once was.

Going back to James' point above too re picking on form and not on 'reputation' or favouritism....with limited to no opportunity to evaluate or offer competition for places over the 3 game series for other players, there is no real way to force decent changes to the squad after game one either, even if (through poor selections) they are ineffective and get their backsides handed to them up in QLD in game 1?!

I mean, based on what I've been hearing, Sheridan Gallagher should potentially be a bolter for this series, if they are looking at current form albeit for the Sunshine Coast Falcons in an lower tiered competition.

I know we're mad about our girls missing out but the biggest snub by far is Teagan Berry. She should be an automatic selection at this point. They do know that you need to score tries to win games yeah?

Yeah it’s another reason why it’s pretty ridiculous be playing origin before the season even starts. I think it would be better to play at the end of the year.

I don’t really care about Origin results just hope the knights players don’t get hurt.

Agree about Berry if not fullback she should at least be on the wing.

Off the top of my head

1. Berry / Chapman
2. Chapman / Berry
3. Kelly
4. Sergis I guess but I think I'm forgetting someone
5. Whitfeld
6. Dibb
7. Southwell
8. Boyle
9. Higgins
10. Johnston
11. Kernick
12. Clydsdale
13. Taufa

14. Dodd? No bench utilities/hookers stand out but Fuimaono isn't the answer either
15. Togatuki
16. Cherrington
17. Kemp / E Johnston / Apps

I know which team I'd be more worried about facing
