I voted other I think Rip Taylor is the man to lead us, great knowledge of the game and would have the full respect of his players plus he has coached a fair few of them when he coached Flegg, if not I really wouldn't mind Matthew Johns he knows what he's doing and he would be great for the club particularly for crowds and sponsers

Joey & Matty should be thrown out the window.

Look at Fittler!!!

That article about the young coaches was a bit misleading, they have had some success ... Fittler 2008, Cleary 2007, 2008, Nathan Brown 2005.

Probably you could say their sides were more inconsistent than others though, from season to season. But if you did the same stats last year, Fittler, Cleary and Brown were all in the top eight.

The Retun Of Newcastle's Greatest Coach!

Ive been saying this for years the Knights must sign Malcolm Reilly! Brian Smith has spent the last two seasons rebuilding the club and we dont need to risk all of that on an amatuer coach. We need the experience of O'Reilly simliar to the Wayne Bennett & Gus Gould moulds. These Guys are the ones who are going to reward their clubs with premierships.

I personally trained with him back when he was doing pt in newcastle and speaking to him i got the impression all it would take would be a phone call. Despite a poor stint at Huddersfield in 1999, (which lets face it didnt involve the highest quality players) Malcolm's coaching career as a whole has been very suceesful.

O'Reilly's effort with the Knights in 1997 was sensational leading his underdog side to premiership success against the 90's powerhouse Manly Warringah Sea Eagles. That victory will go down in history as not only one of the greatest grand final victories but one of the most remarkable campaigns by any club. Malcolm was also a very successful international coach with an early stint with Great Britain leading to 38 wins and 18 loses finishing with a winning percentage of 68% which again against the Aussies is a pretty impressive record.

Malcolm's a proven winner, he can win premierships & not just fantasies about them. He's a great coach with a deep history with the Newcastle Knights. Trust me if this guy gets in, Newcastle are going to have forwards that dont side step or limp into tackles Mal's men are going to run over the oppostion "Paul Harragon Style". His work with the Johns boys in the mid to late 90's revolutionsied the game. One can only imagine the future for guys like Mullen, Gidley, Uate and Wicks if O'Reilly gets a couple season with them.

One last tip, if he does get a start Newcastle will hold up the priemership trophy no later then 2011.

Good luck Malcolm i hope they make the sensible decision.

hear hear:applause: bring that mad bast*rd yorkshireman back and let's put the fear of god through the opposition!

oh,and Smithy saw the writing on the wall that he was unwanted for next season huh, suddenly he was not part of the clubs' future plans? well Brian you've been around long enough to know that what goes around comes around...

I would like to see Matty Johns give it a go with Mal Reilly also on hand to help him out in someway. I really hope it`s not Kearney i can`t stand the bloke. Steve folkes would be ok.

i think matty johns is worth a shot and with the right people around him i think he could be a real success

Why is Tim Sheens in the poll over Michael Maguire and Shane Flanagan (who have both been linked to the job)?

I also think Rip Taylor and Nathan Brown should be in consideration.

I think we need an experience coach. We all know this Knights side isn't full of superstars and probably isn't a team that anyone could walk into and do well, for that reason I think a rookie coach like Matty Johns could be a disaster, although I would like to see him there in the future.

We need someone that can control the side much like Smith did who was doing well in getting his side fired up to play against sides with much bigger name players.
