I just couldn't leave this go without some sort of comment after this announcement by the NRL today...

I can't really see an issue with the tackle, but its hard to tell without seeing the footage prior of how the tackle was initiated and how the beginning position differs from how the tackle finishes up.

Either way, I think it is a fantastic decision by the NRL to clean slate loading points at the end of the season, to me it always seemed stupid that Joe Blow would be suspended for 3 weeks instead of 1 because he did something similar 4 seasons ago.

Daniel's injury was unfortunate, but I don't really think the judicial system has anything to answer for.

Left click on your mouse and slide frame by frame on this video to view the technique he used and intended. The fact that Thompson's initial grasp was lower doesn't highlight it as much but it is the same action to me that saw his hip 'drop' on the the lower part of Daniel's leg with the same force that destroyed Fuimaono's knee... which is why Daniel sustained the hairline fracture.

If Daniel wasn't as tough as he is and got carted off the field and the hairline fracture was identified over the next day or so, how many weeks do you think Thompson gets or do you still think he pays a $2700 fine?

Standard tackle, some people need to toughen up. It’s a contact sport after all.
So Fuimaono needs to 'toughen up' too?!

Just so we are clear...Thompson was found GUILTY of illegal play by the judiciary - not a 'standard tackle'.

Daniel sustained a fracture to his leg that sees him unable to play for 4-6 weeks...I think the fact he tried to play on, IN SPITE of the fracture means he is pretty tough already...

And my point with this thread is focussed on vast the inconsistency in judiciary findings around the same category of infringements.

Oh...and the link to the announcement about the NRL stating "The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) has approved enhancements to the Judiciary and Match Review Committee aimed at making the processes simpler to understand and more consistent for participants." seems to point to the NRL also acknowledging that...go figure:oops:

Perfect examples of hip drops. Body momentum of a pulling down action. Hard to avoid sometimes but they've been banned for many years. Onus is on the players but I do understand others opinions. The consistency has never been great so don't expect too much from the NRL.

Never said Saifiti needs to toughen up. People like yourself and the system overall need to. The moment the media start beating up a nothing tackle they crumble to the pressure.

Like I said injuries happen, it’s a contact sport.

He grabbed around waist and lifted his body weight off the ground and fell onto legs. by the definition its a hip drop tackle. issue is these tackles are pretty hard to identify in real time and will often only be picked up due to an injury.

‘People like myself’ and the system, hey?

I grew up playing my footy in the era below and I’ve also spent some time around Alex McKinnon

But yeah, you’re right….let’s go back to the good old days when men were men and Townsville poddy calves were nervous (and probably still are)…the mums will be stiff arming and shoulder charging each other out of the way to get there kids signed up for THAT game👍🏻😉

No need for duty of care, player welfare and safety…and that movie ‘Concussion’ is just for tinfoil hat conspiracy theorists.

But to get back on the topic and just to make it plain and simple for you ….because you don’t seem to have grasped the concept of my original post - the rule is already there and I don’t really have an opinion on it one way or another - I accept Slots point BUT while it is in the rule book, I just want it APPLIED EQUALLY AND CONSISTENTLY across all teams… and if it’s not then I reserve the right to allow my soft self to call it out

Go get some sleep big fella. It’s late over east.

Not very often i agree with cowboy but if that was an illegal tackle then we may as well get rid of tackling altogether and just play touch ... Dragging someone to the ground once you have hold of them is what tackling is all about ...
Just my extra 2 cents the shoulder charge is the same there's nothing wrong with it as long as you dont hit the head.. I hate the fact you cant shoulder charge anymore it used to be a great thing and i miss it .
Every ball runner shoulder charges the intended tackler .

A hip drop for mine. (Not sure what the rule states)

When a defending player is attempting to tackle the attacking player, but the attacking player is standing upright and using his strength to resist the tackle.

Defending player places a leg behind the attacking players legs and trips him by sweeping the legs and using momentum, causing the attacking player to the ground.

I’m fairly sure I sure Frizz do this in the last trial.

Surely that YouTube video and Thompson’s tackle on Dsaf is not being compared as the Same degree of seriousness

In all honesty who cares, the tackle happened and Thompson got away with it and we now have an injured player.

No point going over it as the NRL has never ever been consistent with any rulings or suspensions.
