If you’re looking for reason for optimism: I still can see Brown and Ponga developing into a strong duo. Brown has long been one of the better 6’s at bringing his outside man onto the ball. Both with Gutho, where they really emphasised Clint’s ball playing, and the new guy they’ve got (Iongi?), who’s more of a runner. And I can see Brown and Sharpe, a more run-first 6/1, developing into a good duo for the same reason.
The massive, massive question mark for me is about the three of them as a trio. One of those things where they may develop into a combination which scythes through teams on good weeks, but really really struggles to do that with great consistency - just not good at doing the little things you want your lead playmaker to do to get the team into position to get their attack on. And that’s whether or not AOB is still coach.
Brown can play either side of the field at least (I actually think he’s marginally more dangerous on the right contra Joey), which helps if we are needing to sign a 7 in a year or two - left sided/left footed halfbacks like Puru or Humphreys are just as viable for us as right-sided.
