What made you support the Knights

Born in Newcastle, but why has that support continued? Must be a love of pain and disappointment.

The year was 1997, some of you may remember it

My father was/is a manly fan. No one was giving newcstle a chance, everywhere I went and everything I heard was manly will win easily.

So in the week long build up to the GF I decided I wanted to go for the team no one thought could win.

To this day when I see the highlight of Albert crossing the line I get a shiver up my spine and my eyes water.


The following 4 or 5 years I took for granted how good the team was. I still hold hope ill see another GF win before I die.

My uncle played for the knights in the inaugural squad. It all just stuck from there.

Yeah if we had another period like 1995-2002, I’d be enjoying the hell out of it. Back then it just seemed like normal transmission.

My first game i watched when I was a young kid just happened to be a Knights vs tigers game, we lost I'm pretty sure.. but for some reason I just stuck with them, none of my family or friends supported them it was always just me

Very good @Owey! It was the Eels and we lost 28-4 at home on 5 March 1988.

The try scorers for the Eels were Erickson, Grothe, Wynn and Ella. It was a obvious mismatch.

We beat the Magpies 20-16 the following week.

1997. I liked the Raiders but I didn’t like super league, so I never followed them across.
The Chief was already my favourite player, so that’s who I went with.
