What do we need to be legitimate contenders in 2019?

Plain and simple we need to improve our defence, which we have been ever so slightly under Brown.

2016 averaged 33.3 points against
2017 averaged 27.0 points against
2018 averaged 24.7 points against

Obviously we need a bigger improvement next season

Interestingly our attack is slightly less lethal this season but only by .20 points per game

Looking at players or positions to strengthen if we're going to move Watson into a hooker/utility role and we're after a new 5/8 we need one that can goal kick, Sio won't be in the 17 much next year and KP doesn't look like he enjoys kicking.

3 props, 1 hooker, 1 back rower & 1 fullback

Ross can cover fullback if need be for a game or two. Not an ideal option, but better than spending cap money a forward could use on a third or 4th string fullback.

Was just reading an article on our website about signings and TPJ and Fonua-Blake we’re both mentioned as the type of players we’d like to sign. If we can get one of these guys I think we’re definitely a contender.

Having Ese, Saifiti x 2, Glasby and one of those guys in our squad we’ve got 5 First Grade standard props and our major weakness becomes somewhat of a strength.

Fonua-Blake's Wikipedia page says he is 1.89m and 150kg lol.
He is also contracted till 2020

But not very well. He is a winger pure and simple and the way his form and injuries have been, a reggies one.

Brown gave TPJ etc as examples of the type of impact forwards we need.
Felise was given a shot at proving he could be an impact forward, and I don't think it worked out.
Saulo has the potential. He is a big unit who runs hard, but needs to put together some injury free training, and he's a year or two off being ready for regular firstgrade.
Tevita Alifa is the impact forward in under 20s, and he rips in, but he's not a big guy, more a nuggety little canon ball type.

It's interesting that he outright named people, particularly two blokes that could be available, I'd say anyone at Manly presently is a shot contracted or not.

we have **** load of fullbacks dont need any of them
We have Kayln that's it.

Watson isn't a proper fullback and Ross dog well most people don't want him in first grade on the wing let alone fullback.

We need a decent backup especially if Brown is considering playing Kayln at 5/8, which he clearly is.

Ummm did u not read Billy report of Watson at 1?? Its easierly the best he's played here

The game when Ponga went off injured and Watson moved to fullback was the best I've seen him play.
Arguably, his second best game was the one where he did a spell at hooker and had a really good try assist.

Watson runs off Ponga even when he’s playing 5/8 he doesn’t need to be playing fullback to do so.

Attack is only one part of the game, playing fullback Watson will have to defuse bombs, kick returns, positional play etc these are areas I feel he will struggle in.

Taupau and AFB both with around 350m running between them. Would happily take both off Manly’s hands haha.
They still lost somehow......... Poor control from manlys halves. The way farah split them early I thought it was going to be a blood bath.
