Ultimate Knights Cult Hero side

Saw Joel Edwards get knocked out cold when doing a tackle in reserve grade - out like a light before he hit the ground. The ref turned to signal the bench to get a trainer out there and had his back to Joel. Joel came round, shook his head, bounced to his feet and was back in the defensive line when the ref turned back around. The trainer and the ref tried to get him off the field, but he wouldn't go till he'd had a run, to prove you'd have to kill him to stop him.

A "cult hero" to me is an unlikely hero, a player who's somewhat obscure and destined to be loved by that club's fanbase but forgotten by a lot of NRL fandom more broadly. There's a segment on NRL Boom Rookies called "Gee, what about this bloke?" where they talk about this kind of player, they refer to them as "blokes" or "guys". To me it's your unfashionable battler who has more good/memorable moments than you'd expect, your big oaf with a big personality, or your guy with all the talent in the world who for some reason could never put it together. That's a "cult hero", that's a guy, that's a dude.

Andrew Johns isn't a "cult hero". He's just a hero.

Bill Peden, hero to Knights fans, scored a double in a grand final, *but* never got within cooee of a rep jersey - that's a cult hero.

Carney was the best jobs for mates example we had at the Knights, he was terrible, used to love running 30 metres sideways and zero metres forward.

Barnett was on Gallen when he first signed with us. And then Gallen said he didn’t know who he was in the press conference
