Uate to fullback

Uate's been disappointing, but it's a stretch to say he should be dropped to NSW Cup!

It's just a few errors that have disappointed me. His defence was poor in Origin, but I haven't seen it exposed too often for us.

He's not doing the forward's job anymore ... but he shouldn't have had to do that in the first place.

I think it's our structure, we look like zombies out there. Our impact off the bench has been the most disapointing. I would be very suprised if we didn't see a few heads roll this week. Sau has played his last game for us I think.

This would be a great idea in some ways & a stupid idea in others. At fullback, Uate would have so much more space & he knows how to run through the line when he sees a gap (he doesn't get many of those on the wing). He would step or barge through the line & it could be as good as the 2012 Inglis to fullback or 2011 Merritt to fullback experiments. However he is rocks & diamonds under the highball, in defense & cleaning up grubbers & chip kicks, all vital parts of a fullback's game. Boyd would be a massive waste on the wing though. Pointless anyway as we have Kev, Pete & Darius.

however you could only rely on him busting the line himself and scoring indivdual tries as he wouldn't be able to set anything up like a real fullback does.

Believe it or not, Uate can actually throw a decent pass. It isn't on show very often at all but he can do it. I've seen him at various times throughout the last 3 years throw a couple of good passes right on the chest of another player. I don't think he'd have a problem throwing a pass, he just likes to run it more.

I can't believe Wes has fallen out of favour ... even with him being tentative while returning from injury, he offers more than Sa'u.

I have to say, in Sa'u's defense, atleast he has offloaded a few times for a couple of tries. Last year that would sound like the weirdest thing.

I don't see all the hate for Sau, he's been ok this year, certainly not deserving of the hate he's getting compared to other players.

Totally agreed Josh, Uate has thrown quite a few right to left passes to the chest of players after a life break, not sure about a left to right pass though.

Apparently he's had some very poor efforts in NSW Cup since being dropped, particularly his defence. I have to agree though. I thought it was harsh to drop him in the first place, especially when Sau hasn't exactly set the world on fire.

It was harsh to drop Sa'u for Wes a few weeks back. He set up 2 tries for Aku 2 weeks before the dropping, yet was dropped for Wes who had just come back & hadn't played great in his first 3 games. Sa'u was solid enough & improving & i said at the time that i thought Wes would need at the very least 1 game in NSW Cup before returning. He came back straight into the side & obviously after coming back from injury wasn't great. Wes has to prove himself in NSW Cup. Junior has had a great attitude so far this year & Wes is looking shaky. I do hope Wes gets back in form though, last year he was just about our best player.

Was being sarcastic but still, towards the end of last year, Uate started racking up the tries when McDougall was inside him? Maybe its just a confidents thing?

I think it's as simple as Wayne never rating Wes in the first place. Anyway this is the most frustrated I've been in a long time.

It does seem like that, but why did we fight so hard to keep him last year when the Dragons were after him to replace Boyd?

Bet Naiqama wishes he took that offer now ...

Looking at this thread has convinced me that you fellas don't take too long to panic. Bennett is pulling the levers and I would reckon that he is just about the most experienced and most successful coach in the history of Australian RL. You will probably find that all of a sudden the penny will drop for the players and everyone will breathe a huge sigh of relief and settle back to watch the game. Bennett has said that he needs some time to get the team working how he wants it so how about giving him the chance to build the team as he sees fit.

I'm not having a hissy fit here, I'm just disappointed in the lack of support that the team seems to be getting.

Nothing was said about not supporting them. I will be at every game this year and for years to come. Saying that though, if somethings not working, we shouldn't be scared to try something different

When even Bennett himself says the team isn't putting in, and they are going backwards, I think we're justified to be disappointed!

It was him who said it was embarressing.

it's not the dumbest idea i've ever heard...Aku takes the high ball ok now and if he was to push up in support ala slater he would be nigh on impossible to stop...remember how good Maddog was at fullback in 2000? 3759 metres, 28 linebreaks...even Kurt circa 2008 couldn't match those numbers...'the most powerful player at the club' (sounds a bit like The Rock there) Akuila Uate, might be the man for the job...
