Uate to fullback

After watching the dismall performance last night vs the Titans something needs to change. I reckon Boyd and Uate should swap positions for the Broncos game. It will give Uate more of a chance to roam around the field (something Boyd is not doing) and also give Boyd a chance to catch and run. Thoughts?
 
Can it be any worse than we are currently playing? I think he would probably suit more a roaming defender than being caught out on the wing
 
No, leave them where they are.

Boyd has been getting better with every game and whenever we get the ball to Aku close to the line he is a scoring threat. A positional change would not do a thing for either of the two.

Can we use both of these players better in their current positions? Yes!

Whenever we do the sweeping play behind the back with numbers outwide, Boyd is screaming for the ball but only ever gets a clean pass sometimes. Most of the time Mullen/Roberts will throw it flat for Houston to get crunched or the pass will be a shocker.

We never use our wingers anymore either, Uate barely ever gets the ball close to the line apart from once last night. Put him one on one and he will get past his man 9/10 times.
 
We need to support the forwards, as fullback, Boyd should be off their hip when they make a break. Mason was in a great spot to offload a few times last night without a Knight to be seen.
 
I reckon Boyd's been good this year ... Uate has been pretty average.

I don't see any advantage to swapping them at all.

I disagree. While Boyd hasn't been awful, he is offering little in attack. The knights are at crisis point right now and giving Uate the freedom to roam, could be an interesting experiment
 
I could see it working in attack but definitely not in defence, however you could only rely on him busting the line himself and scoring indivdual tries as he wouldn't be able to set anything up like a real fullback does. Too many risks imo. Boyd is doing a good job, our halves and right centre just have to create more for Aku.
 
More than tackle busts, I was thinking more of a support player. Following the forwards ala Slater. This is main area Boyd is letting us down (as well of course his kick returns....or lack of)

Yeah Boyd hasnt been great but he's been solid, Uate is shakey in defence and under the high ball so to put him fullback would be stupid. We do need changes though, I'd drop Edwards, Cuthbertson and Costigan and replace them with Sims, Adams and Fa'aoso.
 
I would hate to see Uate at the back when it come to a crucial defensive play. If the bloke couldnt score tries he wouldnt be be playing first grade. Boy he has some defensive miss-reads

I thought I might be the only one that thinks Uate has been way below par. Fans blowing up about Boyd doing things half hearted should take a look how Uate mopes around. Actually when I think of it Chopper Reid should be called in to rev our whole team up. The talk should include his customary "harden the f**k up".

There's nothing stopping Uate doing this from the wing ... although I personally don't see any chances being created by anyone, regardless of who is in support.

Bennett isn't a fan of offloads ... and our ball players are not creating any space (not surprising with our poor go forward) ... so there's not a lot any fullback can do in attack as a ball-runner right now.

Let me say that this is a VERY good idea. Jimmy is a strong defender, a great runner and is capable of extremely quick thinking broken play. Boyd scored two tries for QLD from the wing so maybe is his best position..............

In Origin he went looking for the ball not only in our half, but also midfield when there was no pressure. It worked really well because the play the ball was really quick.

In club he's only doing it to get out of our own end and not in midfield which is annoying, because that's when they're the most broken. He needs to really go searching for the ball and be ready for that set play at their line. He should really take a few notes from Hayne's game during Origin, even though he wasn't too bad himself.
 
What's with all the talk of Uates defense not being good enough for fullback? Not like Boyd has had to make alot of tackles this year, and our scramble defense on linebreaks has been pretty good.

Boyd scoring 2 tries in origin on the wing means nothing, he was playing outside 3 freaks in Thurston, Inglis and Slater, and with an open line
 
He knows how to catch, it's his defensive reads on the wing that are the problem, whether to stay on his man or come in. Either way I think McManus would make a great fullback, and would have him there over Uate, was just pointing out that he doesn't need that much defense at fullback.
 
No way Uate should be playing fullback, as much as I hate to say it but he is even lucky to be in first grade this year as he has been rubbish. Looks to be a shadow of the player he was last year.

Pretty much what the whole team looks like this year...
