TRIAL 1 - NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS V CANTERBURY BULLBOGS 21/2/2022

My first half takeaways:

Hunt's defence when we're short on his side is again so undervalued by this forum. Even if he wasn't our best yardage back from our own end - no-one should be taking his spot
Mann at 13 was fine today. But we're never going to do anything serious with him there. He can execute a set play, but has no ability to play heads up and read the action. It's a limitation on upside, and in terms of winning a premiership, upside is all you need to think about
Maybe the best pass Klem has ever made
Best still hasn't sorted his defensive positioning out

if we are goin to persist with 3 playmakers. mann clifford clune. we need ponga spending more time in the middle 3rd off mann. no need for ponga to ball play with this setup imo
Problem here is that Mann isn't much of a ball player. He just passes the ball with no actual thinking behind it. You want ponga doing that off cliff/clune like he used too with pearcey.

Yeah the good teams and probably the bad ones will have a field day with Mann at first receiver. He's been great defensively though.

Seems going off NRL the doggies were poor with the ruck? Are we bashing around the middle?

They dropped the ball every other set, the end of the sets they did make were awful. They only scored from soft long range breaks. Their forwards were weak.

Another tough year for doggies fans.
