TRIAL 1 - NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS V CANTERBURY BULLBOGS 21/2/2022

No Knights team yet, but looking through other sides - Zac Hosking, Jonah Pezet, Garrett Smith, Nick Meaney, Brendan Elliott, Jacob Gagai, Josh King, Max King, Pride Pettersen-Robati, Albert Kelly and Tevita Pangai are ex-Knights who have got a run.
Brisbane seem to have named their top possible side and Zac Hosking is number 20.

Does anyone know when our lineups for the trial will be announced?
I suspect O'Brien won't make a final decision till after the last training session, and since we have a Monday night game, that might be Saturday.

He might do what other teams are doing and just name all his fit players in no particular order, but I'd prefer he waits till he has a starting side to name.

Team named - some weird selections - Honeti Tuha the strangest.

No Edrick Lee - might be injured still - but Honeti Tuha in number 31 on the interchange bench.

It won't surprise me if they change that, which is why I took a screen shot.

At least we get a look at reserve grade -
Hodgson
Neti Tuha
Hunt
Musgrove
Vea'ila
Wilkinson/Baker
Phythian
Croker
Rugless
Tim Johannson
Talty
Jenkins
Purcell

Barnett is coming back from surgery I think, not sure where Jones is though?

Crossland at 14 as expected, but Hunt out of favour is interesting.

I'd say Barnett comes into the backrow, Jirah to the bench and that's the round 1 side.

Tuala is a young guy who has been improving steadily since he joined us.
Hunt is an old player who seems to have peaked.
Both were about the same level last year. When that's the case, you have to go with the young, improving guy.

Jsaf on the bench makes it look like we want to keep Klemmer at the club. Am doubtful he'd want to stay being a benchie and it makes it easier with Jsaf being locked up for a while.

Tuha was the winger with the headgear who kicked goals wasn’t he? He looked like a decent prospect.

Yes.
He came over from NZ to play Flegg for us and was terrible.
I was really surprized he got a run in reserve grade for us, but he just kept getting better and better and when we won the reserve grade title last time he was one of our best.
Since then he has played for 3 or 4 different reserve grade sides - been good for all of them and I think he's won a few titles or come close.
He is very similar to Mac Baker except Baker can play halves.
It's hard not to like him. He never stops trying.
He's played 95 games of reserve grade for Knights, Wyong, Manly and Newtown.

How is hunt not a starting winger? The thing that concerns me about young is he turns about as fast as the Titanic and teams will use that against him.

No

Dylan Lucas either which I’m suprised about, unless he injured also

But also surprised by Temple Kalepo,Jyris Glamuzina, Zane Camroux,Kristyan Mapalangi not on there but all could be on NSW cup side/jersey flegg trial lists

I expect there will be another list for the reserve grade game that should include all those guys and probably the rest of our Flegg list.
We'll just have to wait till the Knights media guy comes back from holidays or someone gets his password to post the teams.

Yep, has been a bit slack on upto date News on socials since Nath Ryan was let go, no announcement of NSW cup or Jersey flegg squads for the year at all yet and most teams had named there’s at least a month ago
Bit hard to know sometimes what players and juniors still with the club or let go

Fletcher Myers also named on Manly team list

Who is Honeti Tuha? I can’t remember hearing his name.
