Toohey's News

And Arthur if rumours are to be believed, I read from someone on here a few months back that he was on over $420k
I was chatting to a parent of one of our lower grade players at my local last night and we got talking about the junior pathways. He mentioned that POS prefers to handle all the junior retention himself. The thinking is that if a player doesn’t develop the way the club had hoped, it’s easier to move them on because he’s already built a relationship with both the player and their parents.

I asked him whether we should expect any more players to be moved on and he did mention Schiller. Apparently, Schiller’s signing was rubber stamped by POS, which is why there was a delay in registering Schiller’s contract while we were waiting for POS to be officially signed on by the club. The parent said Schiller has attracted strong interest from other clubs, but he and his partner are very settled in Newcastle.

Sounds to me we are stuck with Schiller for another year. If anyone gets moved on, I’d say Matt Arthur is the more likely option. He’s well down the pecking order here and despite being POS’s first major signing, he would be a decent backup hooker in the NRL or starting hooker in the Super League.

Amazed that Perth haven't made an offer for Matt Arthur given their current hooker is "Player not signed" and their best back up is "Player definitely not signed".
Arthur will need to prove more than he should otherwise because of his size. On paper his height and weight make him a non-starter. To the trained scout Arthur is clearly an NRL quality prospect but the size issue also makes it an unnecessary gamble.

We might have trouble getting rid of him. His old man would take him im sure, but perhaps the young bloke doesnt want to move to England

If he does than we are hoping KP, Sharpe and Brown never get injured until Butler or Hunter are ready to which Hunter is nowhere near close to being ready.

While Smith is more than good enough to start for many teams including this one, he needs to find a club that appreciates his talents and don’t have a hard on for turning a fullback into a five-eighth.

But I understand he is a stop gap for us in the way Graham is a stop gap until diesel is ready

Brother, where did you think Sharpe was gonna play? We have a guy called Kalyn Ponga at Fullback. I think you'd find that there aren't that many clubs Smith would start for, most teams have good halves. He's a perfect backup half.
