Toohey's News

Yep sitting in my relocated seats ( on the lower level) while the grandstand is under repair . Barnett certainly wasn't easing back into hit . I could feel the contact on his kickoff returns 😀. Would have been nice to see him in knights colours again

Yeah so if Barry's got it right, Barnett is going to be on $900K at Brisbane, and it would have been $700K with us.

Honestly, if it was me, I would have said yeah bring him back and then since Grant Anderson ended up being an acceptable trade, I would have to assume you could have got it all sorted in exchange for a *good* prospect but *not* Elijah, Cody, Kingston, Toby Winter, or anyone like that. If we want to be seriously competitive over the next few years, what we're betting on is one of our young forwards getting to Barney's level or something close to it... so why not just sign Barney at that point? We would be absolutely rapt if Elijah turned out to be 80% as good.

Easy for me to say from the outside looking in though. And yes it is *incredibly* uncommon for a forward to not start declining significantly after the age of 32. So there would be risk involved, for sure.

Bit of a strange one but both Niukore and Barnett are managed by Gavin Orr. Hopefully Orr didn’t steer Barnett toward the Broncos just to secure a bigger commission, rather than him signing here for unders.

Also wasn't Brown pushing for Niukore as he has played with him previously?

Isn't that something we would want having players that are comfortable playing with each other ????

***Get your minds out of the gutter hahahah

Wow big call, not very often ( never actually) you have a top player willing to take massive unders to come to the Knights. Hopefully it turns out to the right choice

I thought it was $850k for Barnett. I think it’s crazy if we could get him back on a two year deal third an option on $650K. There is some element of risk I guess but that’s why you do the two year with option. And I would have done a player swap to get him this year. Imagine if we had him in our squad this year.

Anyway he may win a premiership this year the way the Wahs are going.

We still don’t really know the full story in fairness. Just because he was willing to take less and come back for $700k or so doesn’t necessarily mean the Knights had that much available to offer and chose not to. When asked about it a few weeks ago Holbrook said the salary cap situation was going to make tabling him a competitive offer difficult.

Hypothetically if they had budgeted say $500k to bring in an experienced forward, and they've identified Niukore as someone they can get in that ballpark and already gone down the road in those negotiations, and then Barnett becomes available but is immediately getting offers of nearly double that amount then there's not much sense in diverting course to even table that offer.

Plenty of Barney's mates here who would of been glad to play with him again . Anyway we move on !

So Nuikora is signed for 2027 so where does that leave the likes of Frizell, can we sign both if not Frizell must go or are we ready to let a few others go and can we replace them from locals as the almighty dollar speaks very loud

From what I’ve heard about those muppets reputations - probably!

Okay, genuine question: Does he have good go forward? He averages 72 running metres per game. Really not unusual at all for him to play big minutes but run about 30 metres the whole time he’s out there…

Not sure,
He looked really strong against us.
But was it an outlier because he was playing for his new deal?
61mins, 95m, 44pcm, 30tks, 0 missed.
I haven't payed much attention to his career tbh.

If he is replacing Frizz, here are Frizz's stats for the same game,
37mins, 56m, 18pcm, 29tks, 2 missed.

30m wouldn't be very good. How do you look up stats from previous years?
